Mindy’s metabolic mayhem class is fantastic! It’s an excellent strength-based HIIT class that perfectly sets you up for your weekend workout to be over by early Saturday morning. Highly recommend!

I love going to Mindy's classes (for personal training and group class). It's rare for me to feel comfortable in a gym and I am always looking forward to my time here. I love how the place is low key and effective at delivering a workout that makes you feel strong and not injured afterwards.I first came here to get help with my lower back and shoulder issues (which was always in pain after childbirth/ baby tending), and after going to this personal training consistently, I was able to feel more stronger in my core. It helped with my posture, ability to hold myself, and my confidence. Safe to say after a year, my shoulder and back pain is no longer there.I used to hate any kind of weight lifting, have tried it many times and with many methods, and almost every single time, it would hurt my back and shoulder because something was not working. I don't feel that way at this gym, the work out is effective and yet gentle. I feel like I'm getting stronger, and leaner but I'm not drained or tired afterwards. I think she has an innate sense of knowing how to help people get stronger.The group classes are also super awesome, a sense of community but not too forced, like everyone just comes together naturally - working out with ease. I love working out with Mindy and BK Roots! I have been doing personal training and Saturday class for 6 months and I look forward to this time every week. I have not only been working towards my weight loss goals but also feel stronger and more knowledgeable about what my body needs. Mindy listens to what is going on for me in my life and helps me tailor my workouts and eating in a realistic way that I can stick to. BK Roots makes scheduling easy and their space is great!

Mindy is a beast! In a great way. She keeps you laughing while the burn has more than settled in and the music helps keep you moving during squat jumps ? I love the Sat am classes and look forward to trying a springboard class.

Mindy is so awesome! She understands the body so well and every time I go to her class, or have personal training I feel my body adjusted aligned, stronger, more energy. Her classes are so fun, and the more consistency you put in, the stronger you get and the easier everything becomes. We just started working on weight loss, and her support has been invaluable. It really is a science and I feel amazing after losing 5 lbs in 3 weeks. A new woman! So grateful for you Mindy!

Life changing. That's really what my sessions with Mindy have become. In early 2022 I turned 52, had put on 30 EXTRA pounds when my mom died, (on top of already being over weight,) and I pretty much was resigned to the "fact" that my knees were now always going to hurt, the pain in my hips was arthritis and, oh well - that's just ageing and I have to take prescription strength ibuprofen for the rest of my life. Like I literally just thought that was it, nothing could change. I tried an introductory personal training session with Mindy and I had mixed feelings. She was super patient with me and asked me to do things I didn't think I could do. And, I got into my head and believed I couldn't do the things and I left feeling super tired and kind of defeated because I realized this was going to be a lot of work. And it was. But I got so much stronger, so much faster than I thought was possible. I struggled a lot too. I still struggle but at a higher level. And now I'm doing step ups without knee pain. I wake up without pain in my hips. I can roll over in bed without huge effort!What I wanted was functional fitness. I felt like if I can just have movement without pain, I'll eventually be able to do the things I need to do to lose weight. As it turns out Mindy is also a nutritionist so when I'm ready, we can work on my food as fuel and I'll really start seeing some progress. The springboard classes are also fantastic and a great supplement to my 1 on 1 sessions. Lucky to have found this place.

Had to give an update postnatal! To have Mindy guide me along my recovery from my C section was everything, because it was HARD. To have trust that she knew what my body was going through, I feel like I recovered so much faster and because of all the work I did with her prenatal it just made my recovery back to full strength that much better. I LOVE my Mindy workouts! Every session has been and is a treat for me. It's everything to me to feel strong and good in my body and Mindy has helped me feel that in prenatal, postnatal and now as my ongoing mom-athletic self!

I’ve had a great experience with personal training and classes at BK ROOTS! I did personal training with Mindy and feel much stronger, balanced, and like I have better endurance. I also really enjoyed the springboard classes with Mindy and Ash. I definitely recommend BK ROOTS - they put a lot of care into working with their clients and meeting you where you are. If you want to feel more in touch with your body and learn proper form, this is the place!

Mindy and Ash are phenomenal! They're both exceptional instructors, passionate about fitness, and I can't say enough good things about BK Roots. I signed up for personal training with Mindy because I'm a dedicated couch potato. I was nervous to reach out, but Mindy put me at ease from our first session. And, training with her each week is a joy! Mindy takes care to focus on areas I want to develop, is expert at explaining and demonstrating moves, pinpoints adjustments so I get the most out of each exercise, and her great sense of humor makes me forget I'm lifting heavy things. I also recently started taking Ash's noon Springboard classes. Fantastic! Ash has a ton of positive energy that keeps me motivated through each class. With the small class size, Ash gives one-on-one feedback to ensure we're getting the most out of our workouts. These classes are tough, efficient, and fun! Mindy and Ash created a fantastic environment and I'm lucky I found BK Roots!

After about six months of my usual gyms & fitness studios being closed due to the pandemic, I signed up for personal training with Mindy at the original Jack London location. It was one of the best decisions I made for myself during this time. She has consistently been patient with my progress and willing to ramp things up when I'm feeling my strongest. Unfortunately, before the in-person classes started up, they moved to the Piedmont locations but I have continued my PT sessions and virtual classes (and the new location is lovely!) Both Mindy and Ash are very professional, easy to talk to and focussed on your overall well-being... Not just how strong you look but how strong you feel. I'm very happy to have found them when I did!

This is a great neighborhood place to get in shape. The owners/trainers are passionate about fitness and understand everybody comes in at their own levels. They have helped me with my knee pain and to get out of the Covid slump.

I was looking to treat myself to prenatal personal training sessions when I became pregnant so I could stay healthy and fit through out the pregnancy. I found BK Fitness and Mindy and decided to give it a go with the initial session. It was awesome. I've since been meeting with Mindy weekly and it's my favorite 'me time' that I look forward to! Not only do I feel and notice the physical results, I notice it's also been a great emotional boost for me. I seriously can't recommend BK and Mindy enough, for anyone wanting to treat themselves to improving their fitness and overall well-being. Especially to the Oakland pregnant momma's out there, this has been the perfect thing I've done for myself and baby! Thank you Mindy!

BK Roots will target the exercise to your needs. I started at BK Roots because I needed a total knee replacement (2) and I needed to strengthen before the surgery. I worked with Mindy for personal training who incorporated classes as my strength and dexterity improved. My husband is so impressed he encourages me to keep on the path to health.
