“I had the absolute best experience at The Combine in Oakland! I was visiting the area for 3 weeks and felt instantly at home, they have a great community vibe! The gym itself is well equipped, the workouts were consistently challenging and well-structured. Coaches Ashley and Alex are incredible: tough but motivating, and always ready to offer adjustments to help you push yourself safely. The energy, the people, and the music (seriously, the music!) made every session something to look forward to. I’m so grateful I could keep up my training while away from home, and I can’t wait to come back!”

“I have been going to Truve for classes since 2017 and I remain a loyal fan. Classes I have taken include TRX, dance, various iterations of Bootcamp and HIIT. The instructors are now friends after all this time. Come and check it out”
“I'm so blessed to be part of the 9Round community! Dave and all of the other trainers here are so kind, so good at what they do and SO supportive. During my first year working out here, I focused on my mental health. What a difference a year makes! 9Round has become the thing that pulls me through hard days - just being part of the beautiful, diverse community of people who come here and getting the encouragement and support from Dave and the crew has meant everything. Now I'm more focused on my physical... and damn does Dave push me in the best ways! I'm down 15 lbs. and feeling so confident and strong. Dave is always willing to connect, hear about your life, offer nutrition and PT advice... it is just such a blessing to receive that kind of love and care in this crazy world we live in!”
“Each time I have had the absolute honor of working out at this facility, I have been challenged, supported, and pushed to get the most out of my workout. I leave with an endorphin rush each time and feel stronger and closer to achieving my strength, stability, and overall wellness goals. Fabian is extremely knowledgeable and can modify and adjust workouts to fit your needs. I enjoy the atmosphere, the well planned workouts, and the folks I work out beside. 10s across the board!”
“After injuring my shoulder shoveling snow while in the mountains during snowpocalyose last winter, I knew it was time to get my body back in shape. Enter, Bliss Fitness and Health! From the first Rebel Recess class that I took, I have never felt more comfortable (except for the burpees!!) or more welcomed into a fitness space. The teachers are fantastic; the space is gorgeous; and most importantly after every class I feel euphoric, strong, and, dare I say, filled with bliss.”
“Working out with Roland at Bay Bridge has been awesome. I first started going before a scheduled surgery to build strength, and I was amazed at how fit and strong I felt after just a few months. My sessions with Roland helped my surgery go very smoothly, and now I am loyal to this gem of a neighborhood gym!! All bodies and people will feel welcomed here.”

“I have such a great amount of respect for the place and community that Coaches Holly and Brian have built. Coach Paola also helps create an incredible space where people want to keep showing up for themselves and for their goals. The Resilient Strength is purposeful, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of the athletes that enter through the front door, whether they are trying to introduce themselves to the world of strength training, or if they are trying to take their game to the next level. I have trained here for a little less than a year, and my only regret is that I took so long to find this space. I consider myself an aspiring powerlifting competitor. It is deeply reassuring to have personal coaching that will align with my interests, and is actively helping me achieve the dreams and PRs that I want to reach. The amount of growth I have experienced as an athlete in such a short amount of time is beyond my expectations, and I am exceptionally grateful for the ride. Highly recommended.”
“I started seeing Jay for sports massages after sustaining some gym injuries that left me with chronic pain. He is excellent at what he does and I like that his approach addressed the full body. He is also very friendly and makes you feel comfortable and at ease. Whether you're an active athlete or just dealing with tense muscles, you can benefit from having bodywork done by Jay!”
“I was grabbing a juice from Got Juiced and after chatting with the manager Tarrell found out he was the owner of Body Mechanix. After hearing about my struggle with back pain when lifting he offered to give me tips on my form and did an incredible stretch session that honestly left me feeling 2 inches taller! I got to meet the manager in Body Mechanix too and they were both so friendly and professional. Thanks for the kindness to someone who isn't even a member (yet) Tarrell. He's the real deal, highly recommend the staff there.”
“I came to BK Fitness to help me heal from back pain—and I cannot say enough great things! When I started, I was immediately impressed with how Mindy assessed my capabilities without judgement, and got me working in a way that’s fun, encouraging, and results oriented. Now, a few months in, I am stronger, healthier, inspired and grateful. BK Fitness is a wonderful place for transformation!”
“Bravo Zulu is important to my son. When he can't get a ride to his training sessions, he will walk -- 30 minutes, sometimes in the rain. He's excited to share what he's learned, and craves the discipline and challenge. At tournaments, I remind him that we're there to learn. While he loves collecting medals, win or lose, he's always ready to get right back to training at Bravo Zulu.”
“My favorite gym I've ever been to - equipment's always available, clean and good quality. It's strength training focused, sled, suspension trainers, multiple squat racks, the way a gym should be. The vibe is really friendly, everyone's local and a regular. Intimate, but you can still come in and do your thing with headphones on.”
“I wanted to support a local black owned business in Oakland -- and this gym was the best choice EVER! Brother Gary has so much knowledge about bodybuilding and the prices for his training are phenomenal!”
“Super fun place to train and lift. The pump classes are high energy and the powerlifting classes are supportive and informative. Really community oriented and they even have a non profit to provide free coaching to Oakland youth. Coach Jason and Pela and all the other trainers are knowledgeable and awesome to work with. Definitely recommend!”
“I am so happy to share my experience at Pinpoint, especially with the owner and trainer, Shakina. Nearly a year ago, I embarked on a journey to improve my fitness, filled with nerves and doubts about joining a gym. From the moment I stepped foot into Pinpoint, Shakina's warmth and patience dissolved those worries. Shakina's dedication to her clients is remarkable. Despite my initial fears of not measuring up to others, she made me feel welcomed and supported every step of the way. Her understanding nature and ability to tailor workouts to individual needs have been instrumental in my progress. Shakina's enthusiasm is contagious, and her encouragement pushes me to reach new heights. Not only have I grown stronger physically, but I've also gained confidence. Pinpoint has truly improved my life, and I can't recommend them enough to anyone seeking a supportive, effective, and empowering fitness experience.”

“Pacific Strength (PS) is as much a space for high-quality and skillfully led classes, as it is an exceptional opportunity to build a sense of community. PS has been established and operated based on inclusivity of people of all races, sizes, genders, sexual orientations and nationalities. This is vital for anyone who has ever struggled to have a sense of safety, belonging or basic human respect among their community—either within or outside of a wellness space.
The coaches at PS, including James who is the owner, are a team of athletes who have each been on their individual journey of fitness and teach from that experience to reach as many class participants as possible. In each class, they offer positive reinforcement, motivating music for inspiration, variations to meet the fitness level of all participants and individualized attention to ensure safety.
A membership at PS can become an investment that begins and/or sustains a healthy lifestyle that can go beyond the doors of PS. This is especially important for those of us who may feel a bit intimidated by going to the gym, unsure of where or how to start working out, need a “refresher” or want a cost-effective way to receive an almost daily well-rounded fitness program and coaching!”

“Very friendly staff and members, nice variety of equipment and different classes to fit many different members' needs! I love the community vibe! The Body Performance class with Kara was super fun and I got a great full-body workout.”
“Amazing martial arts gym owned by women and is queer owned! Queer/trans friendly and open to all genders! Very beginner friendly and good for advanced practitioners too. I've been coming here for over a year and travel from SF because I love the community and the various kickboxing/mobility classes. The kickboxing is technical and is sanda/sanchou style. I found it very complemetary to Muay Thai when I was doing that as well. I've enjoyed having a healthy outlet for stress, learning new techniques to defend myself, and having a friendly gym to learn techniques. All the instructors are knowledgeable and wonderful to learn under. There's sometimes guest instructors each month to learn from too and it makes it vary in if it's slower pace or faster pace and new skills to learn. There is also BJJ/jiu jitsu martial arts classes that I haven't tried yet. This is also a nonprofit gym called Tuff Love and they organize free self defense classes for women, POC, LGBTQ+ people, and assault survivors. I found it very helpful to do a self defense class here too and would recommend to feel more confident in those situations. With it being a nonprofit they are lower cost and more affordable than other gyms too.The space:Masks required/masks optional depending on surges, hepa filters used. Gender neutral bathroom available and one changing room with curtains to partition. One open gym with mats, storage space for items, and a water cooler.”

“This is still My Niece favorite because their manager but I have to admit there's two men that work there one is CARIO and the other is GUY they work graveyard. They are two of the most amazing employees that planet fitness could ever have they're very knowledgeable about their job. They're very kind, courteous and helpful. They're the most amazing tune in that I've ever seen Work anywhere and I think that they should be recognized highly for their accomplishments and all that they bring to the table with that planet fitness God knows it needs help”
“My husband and I have loved coming here! We are total beginners and Jonathan has never once made us feel bad about it. The gym has a friendly, informal and uncompetitive vibe. The classes are challenging and the focus changes every day. Definitely recommend this gym to anyone!”
“When I do join a gym, I always consider Montclair Fitness my go to place. I have been a member many times over the past couple of decades, and I'm planning to get back there soon. It's a homey atmosphere with just what I need to do a good work out.”

“Michael Smartt is beyond great. I worked with him before the pandemic, and started again when BFF moved to the new location, which I love (it's small enough and big enough, with easy parking). Michael knows so much about the body, can chase down any injury, prevents others; he's helped me prep for big back packing trips; stay healthy and strong for every day life, and even given me exercises that have helped my migraines. He puts together a well-rounded, smart workout-- I always recommend BFF to everyone I know.”
“Radically Fit is an amazing space to get strong in a supportive and uplifting community. I absolutely love coming to their classes! Always leave feeling awesome. I have only attended weekend classes due to living in the South Bay - wish I lived closer, this gym is truly one of a kind. The instructors are friendly and incredibly knowledgeable and give individual pointers to help ensure you have the proper form when lifting. They are great at structuring the classes to work for all fitness levels. Music is always fun and helps keep you moving.
Before your first visit, read the community agreements (on website) to better understand the intentions for the space.”
“It's a community-oriented environment with equipment and old school vibes that you won't find at the corporate gyms. The gym is always clean, and I don't have to worry about people resting on equipment while on a phone. It's a gym for beginners and bodybuilders alike.”

“started with boot camp to get back into consistent schedule with workouts in the summer .... swim wear ready :) then personal training with Shon to prepare me for returning to weightlifting. As a women in my 50s, working with a trainer who is close in age and fit as hell has been inspiring. If you are looking for a place that is easy, this is not it. If you have a problem taking orders from a person of color, this is not your spot. If you want to challenge yourself and get fit, you will love it. Recommend know-it-alls to leave it at the door, because if you knew how to get fit you would not seek this platform. Happy training!”
“This is the best gym we have ever been to. The staff are friendly and always willing to help. They are conscientious about keeping everything clean and well ventilated.
Clients are considerate of others and take turns on the exercise machines. They have personal training as well. Love this place.”
