Marcus Book Stores is a historical gem and rare treasure in Oakland, the only Black-owned bookstore in the Bay Area. It has been in business for more than 50 years with a history of community service. The atmosphere is inviting with wonderful, helpful service. It offers a vast and amazing collection of beautiful books for all ages, including classics, current titles, and a wealth of African American authors. It is a great jewel with good, inviting energy and warmth of community.
I have been coming to Marcus Book Store since I was a little girl. The atmosphere hasn’t changed…you can still sit on the floor and read. The selection is amazing and the service is wonderful.
