“Im a 52 year old mom and was slightly intimidated by Pacifica Athletic Center because it seemed more like a guy’s guy gym. My son goes there with his friends and loves it!! I started working out there recently and couldn’t have been more wrong as the gym is amazing for the ladies as well! There is so much support and a lot of women there. What I love about it is the sense of community. I’ve been training with Topher and he is spectacular!! I’m learning so much about proper weight training and proper alignment to be able to do the machines with confidence. The staff are so supportive and always available if you have questions. A huge kudos as well to the awesome music and the place is pristine and so clean! Loving the classes too. Five stars all around!!”

“This place is fabulous! For anyone hesitant to join up, don't be! I was first a little wary of sparring with others, but there are 2 4pm classes a week (Tue/Thu) that are technique only, so it's just you and the bag! Also a great way to break into the right way to destroy inanimate objects. The class is conveniently located (parking, near major roads/highway), the times I've gone I've never felt crowded and the coaches always take time to show you the moves, and then walk to each person to make sure they are doing it right to avoid injury/strain. Also, BIG plus - if you join up, you get FREE gloves!! Woot woot! The other attendees are super supportive AND we take a pic after every class (optional). So fun! GO! Go NOW!”

“I've been coming here since July 2022. I wanted to get into better shape and this really worked for me. The classes are only about an hour long. The exercises are as challenging as you make it. Everyone that works out here is focused on their own workout, but also friendly, very supportive, and encouraging. All the coaches are great: Tala, Kriegon, Gabe, Jack. I haven't had Kendel as a coach yet, but I've had her in my class on the station next to me and she's super sweet. The coaches push you without being too pushy. They cheer you on without being too cheerleader-y. They play good music that keeps you going. Their energy is always up up up and it's contagious. If you haven't tried out OT yet, this is the studio to go to. I'll be honest, I sometimes think about doing something else for a workout, but then I go to a class and I just keep coming back.”

“We were visiting my brother in El Granada & my 3 teens needed a place to work out for a week. They offered a week pass at a reasonable price. The facility met their very high expectations & the staff was very kind, helpful & accommodating. The environment there felt relatively safe at the times we went.”

“24 Hour Fitness is a place built on effort, discipline, and community. People don’t go there to posture or collect empty titles — they go to sweat, to push themselves, to grow. The space is open to all, regardless of background or appearance, and progress comes only through consistency, practice, and honest work. In that environment, the values are clear: what you put in is what you get out. It is authentic, fair, and rewarding in a way that feels real.

UC Davis, on the other hand, too often represents the opposite. For all its prestige and cost, the return on investment is low. It produces too many graduates who leave with little but credentials — “brain empty,” mistaking shallow defiance for resistance, and often quick to sabotage others’ interests for no reason but ego. Rather than rewarding genuine excellence, the system favors bureaucracy, appearances, and hollow gestures. It is an institution that risks turning education into performance, and learning into conformity.

The contrast is striking. Where 24 Hour Fitness rewards effort, fairness, and growth, UC Davis frequently fosters vanity, bureaucracy, and shallow achievement. And so, it becomes necessary to pray:

Lord, forgive the people of UC Davis. Forgive them for chasing appearances over substance, for mistaking arrogance for wisdom, and for choosing vanity over truth. May they learn that real excellence comes not from hollow status, but from humility, effort, and authenticity — the very things even a simple gym teaches better than their institution does.

Amen.”
