It was the worst selling experience ever! I had hours of waiting when I had an appointment to get a ridiculously low offer for my car (30% from KBB value). Moreover such poor excuses like "your car has noises" when it runs as it should. Don't waste your time. Stay away.

STAY AWAY! The worst experience ever. I brought in an exclusive, beautiful and very clean Jeep Wrangler Sahara with LOTS of upgrades and features, just to see what they could offer for it since their whole business model is built on buying and selling pre-owned vehicles. Wasted about 2 hours of my time and had to check in with them if the appraisal was ready. It turned out, it was - and no one even called me, even though they promised to do it as soon as they were done. They offered me 25% of its market value, didn’t include any upgrades and modifications into the appraisal, and - the worst part - came up with a made up issue of “some engine noise” to “justify” the lowball offer when I know for a fact there is no noise whatsoever. This Jeep has a MODIFIED, UPGRADED exhaust so maybe your appraiser should get a proper license to do the job instead of insulting customers. When you walk through their lot, you’ll see that all of the vehicles are TERRIBLY OVERPRICED and yet, they pay the LOWEST FOR YOUR TRADE-IN. You know, dealerships are also called stealerships for a reason, and while not all of them are the same - this CarMax is a fine example of this term. Just save your time and go elsewhere - BOTH for buying and selling. Otherwise, you’ll be voluntarily subjecting yourself to a daytime highway robbery.

Got a good price for my Auto 06 Tacoma SR5, $200 more than Kelly Blue Book.
Only drawback is that it took 2 hours even when I had an appointment.
Thinking about selling another vehicle through them when I don't drive that anymore too.

Longer than anticipated wait times to sign and receive payment. CarMax refused to provide Lyft for anything outside of five miles.

The representative took my details and said he will be back soon, put me on hold and never came back. Waited for 25 minutes before I hanged up the call.

I thought I bought a car that was serviced and reviewed by trained technicians. I took it to a local specialist to review before the 10 day buyback period expired to make sure all was good. The specialist pointed out items that should be corrected, such as a leaking water pump that should be replaced prior to purchase. I returned it to Carmax with the list of items. They promised they would get back to me but they never called me back. After several follow up visits I finally gave up and picked up the car five days later, after the buyback period expired, parked in the same location I dropped it off. I’m happy with the car but the service dept was well below what I expected and not very helpful. I did make a new service appointment to see if they will honor the warranty. I will update this review after the service appointment.

I couldn't have asked for a better experience making a vehicle purchase. No haggling, no pressure, and no surprise fees. I highly recommend to family and friends.

All of the CarMax people who helped me were great. They were patient, kind and knowledgeable. I went to 2 locations, Fremont and Pleasanton and each had lots of cars to look at. I bought a 2018 Honda CR-V.

I sold my car here and got what I wanted, and if that was the end of the story that would be a 5 star experience.
Unfortunately, when I first entered the store the welcome desk worker was extremely rude and unwelcoming. I walked up to the desk and told the worker "I would like to sell a car today" and he immediately snapped back at me and said "sir it's a long wait". Didn't take my information. Nothing. It's like he assumed I would just leave and come back later. I replied that I still want to sell my car today, in which he huffed and put my information down.
Despite this encounter, the process was very easy. Gave the business desk my keys, had an offer in hand in 15 minutes, accepted the offer and was out in around an hour.
I'd use CarMax again, hopefully they can make the welcome desk more welcoming.

I bought and sold a car in Pleasanton, fair price and very easy to deal with.
