D G Wills Books is a very cute, eclectic, and legendary bookstore in La Jolla and San Diego, considered a must-visit. It is a thoroughly stocked, well-organized, and well-packed shop, though it can seem a tad cluttered. The store offers a great selection of new, used, nostalgic, and unexpected books, including serious reads, rarities, and art books. It is known for some incredibly special finds, such as personal copies from figures like Francis Crick and autographed first editions. The owner, an eccentric and passionate older gentleman, is a huge part of the shop’s character and fantastic ambiance. He is extremely kind, helpful, and informative, offering assistance to find any book or section. His sense of humor and clear priority of sharing great books with the community over making a big profit adds to the unmatched value. The store has a storied history, with connections to many great Beat generation visitors. Customers consistently leave with purchases and an elevated mood, highly recommending it for its stellar collection and special atmosphere. Note that drinks are not allowed inside near the books.
Wonderful, I have been going here for years. They have a $1 alleyway with lots of beautiful vintage books. The shop is lovely and peaceful. I always enjoy my experience.
