“My favorite book store for sure, I always love to go and peruse the zine library even if I don't have a lot to spend, I can usually get some local zines for $10 or less. Plus the super cute shop cat is an absolute treasure. The decor and atmosphere are just so cozy and beautifully currated I wish I could spend the whole day in there!”

“Warwick's is everything an independent bookstore should be—and more.

As the nation's oldest continuously family-owned bookstore, Warwick's has been delighting readers for generations, and somehow it just keeps getting better. The book selection is outstanding, the staff is knowledgeable, and the author events are constant, bringing everyone from bestselling writers to rising stars right into the heart of La Jolla.

And don't make the mistake of thinking it's just a bookstore. The gifts, stationery, cards, and unique finds are every bit as irresistible as the books. It's the kind of place where you stop in for one thing and leave with three.

In a world of online shopping, Warwick's remains a reminder of why local businesses matter. It's a La Jolla institution, a community gathering place, and one of my favorite spots in the Village.

If you haven't been lately, you're overdue.”

“San Diego has many excellent indie bookstores, but the book catapult is one of the best. They have a great selection of new books, including an amazing children's section with books for all developmental levels. The staff is always helpful and knowledgeable, and they have frequent community events for you to connect with other readers.”

“It’s huge and definitely busy, but not overwhelmingly crowded, which makes for a really pleasant experience. I stopped by the café inside and ordered a latte along with the lemon loaf, which was labeled as the barista’s favorite and it did not disappoint. Both were delicious.

They also offer a variety of drinks and sandwiches, giving you plenty of options. The staff was very friendly, which added to the overall positive vibe. It’s an easy place to spend an hour or more just walking around, and it can also be a great spot to study or get some work done, though it may get busier at times. I’d highly recommend checking this place out.”

“As the author of The Grant Colson Thriller Series and The SERA Archives Thriller Series, I appreciate local neighborhood bookstores, and Bluestocking Books in Hillcrest is a fun and unique shop.

I even found a copy of one of the old Piers Anthony fantasy novels I grew up on. Those books helped push me toward becoming a writer, along with my shelf of nonfiction polar and mountaineering titles.

The staff here is super courteous and the prices are more than reasonable. It’s great having places like this in the city where people actually know the books, understand the genres, and can point you in the right direction for whatever you’re hunting for. I also noticed the romance shelves while writing The Maui Desire Romance Series, and it’s a thoughtfully curated section that fits the store well.”

“Kiddo is into Manga... as us OGs know this can be a minefield. Staff was SUPER SUPER helpful in steering away from the more explicit content variety.... B&N actually wraps the individual book so that kiddos can't thumb thru it.

Store is clean... a bit small from what I'm used to... selection is still good... has all the same areas just fewer options (but still good). Plenty of parking if you're ok with walking.”

“An incredibly well-selected collection of new and old books fill the shelves at this bookstore. I almost left with a stack of books, but my eyes were bigger than my budget. Speaking of budgets, the prices were great. Even with my limited budget, I still left with a nice lil stack. I will definitely be coming back next chance I get.”

“I heard about the Black from a very good friend that we recently lost. He grew up in OB, and the black was one of those stores that was part of his life there. I'm glad I was able to have a moment to remember him in a place he also loved.”

“I love coming here to see what gem I can pick p for cheap. From $.25 to $4 for books, cds and dvds - you will definitely find something you will enjoy.

A great spot to pickup children's activity books or classic National Geographic Magazines.

Friendly staff and organized.

“I am taking EMGM 105 and 106 and the bookstore staff was very helpful in helping me find everything I needed for class. The bookstore is a little hard to find, there aren't really any signs. At least that I could find. Its kinda in the middle, back. Its building K1. If you see the child development building in front of you, before you get to the building go around the building on your left and its the next big building.”

“Huge variety of items. Surprised how large it was. Best of all there’s food. Really yummy pastries - almond croissant was way better than any of the chain coffee stores!”

“I had such a fun time here! I work nearby and I’d seen this bookstore multiple times and decided to go in and look around. I was not disappointed. They have a huge selection of books. They also have a hefty selection on legos and little Knick knacks. I loved roaming around and just seeing all the different things. If ever in the area I recommend going in and just looking around for fun or if you’re looking for a book I think they’ll have it available (:The kids selection is pretty big. The biggest selection I’ve seen so far!”
