Terrible car rental company rented several times in the San Francisco area. Wasn’t not satisfied the two times decided to start renting somewhere else never had a problem of miscellaneous fees after. First time vehicle stopped on me on a mountain incline then I was charged for smoke when no smoking was done in the vehicle. I sent pictures as proof of clean return and they insisted I was smoking. Luckily it was a business expense otherwise I would’ve been even more pissed. NEVER RENT FROM THEM. Go to Turo or another company

San Francisco airport rental: 12/6/23. I have rented probably 50-60 cars in the states, a car in Iceland, 3 times in Scotland, and in Spain & Portugal. This was by far the worse experience I have had. I reserved a car months in advance and paid a deposit. Upon arrival at the airport, I was first asked if I wanted to upgrade for an additional $60 as our car was "being washed". I declined. Next, the agent tried to convince me that I needed to pay $72 for a fast track. I explained I would be in the non-toll direction for one bridge and only had one bridge to cross after that, way short of the $72 he wanted for fast track. After that, we waited 2 hours for our rental car to "get washed". Asked to speak to a manager and were told there were none available. The agent repeatedly tried to get me to take an all electric car, which I have never driven and didn't want to start in a busy metropolitan area, and having to re-charge the car before an early return flight. It became quite clear that our car wasn't "being washed" and they didn't have one in that class available. He finally offered me a "pick up truck". We were tired, hungry and frustrated so agreed. We ended up driving a gas guzzling, huge F150..cost us extra $ for gas, and a pain to park in the cities. I will never use Thrifty/Dollar again and will share the experience with family and friends. It's clear if they can't upsell you, they play a waiting game to see if you will give up so they can charge more for an upgraded car. I will be keeping an eye on my credit card to make sure there are no extra charges. I have lost complete faith in this company.

Worst customer experience ever. Avoid!! Go to Alamo instead. We had booked online and when we picked up the car, fees and taxes had tripled which more than doubled our total price. A conversation with the manager resulted in nothing. We were told that online booking prices are "an estimation only". Nice scam, Thrifty. We walked over to Alamo and got excellent customer service, a much better and much cheaper car.in under two minutes.

I first want to give a shout out to Lance ???? he gets ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ but overall, I wasn’t going to mention the poor service. I had a horrible check in in Philadelphia. Mind you, I drive myself there from New Jersey. Have to pay for ?️ . I take this long ✈️ and when I get to thrifty. There is a lady I did not get her name I want to give him his ❤️ because I believe I seen Lance getting out of the ? I am at SFO now showed her my insurance card when I was a new driver I fell for that Scam. The lady she said we don’t deal with your insurance slid my phone back to me. I said I don’t have to buy your insurance I don’t want your ⛽️ so she took a $200 deposit off my ? she told me to lower my voice. I reserve my ? through enterprise. This was booked by my son’s father. Do you know she sent me to two cars that I would never never ever have drive I always had brand new cars no ? smell like ? I mean Hooptie look like ? and she said if you don’t like the second one, then I don’t know what to tell you I was crying like no smart phone device I was livid from walking up and down going up and down up and down. Can you imagine then I said to Filipino guys let’s hook me up with a Honda E6 I didn’t realize it was a hybrid two how fancy it was to everybody wanted to race and asking we swap ? and they had a nice ? but I tell everybody don’t buy their insurance and if you don’t have a ? there is insurance that you can buy to use on other peoples ? before I purchased a car I used to pay $1800 a month not including the rental monthly for four months now I rent just for fun I know my stuff but the slide my phone back and say we don’t deal with your insurance and after you take my deposit why don’t you just give me the proper ? when she seen I spoke to Language she found up even more she said what yes my skins of African-American person, but I’m half-and-half I was just trying to loosen her up. Oh car was dirty even the Honda but I always make sure I spent a good 60 or $70 cleaning their cars. See I still have compassion.

Waited 1.5 hours only to be told they only have electric polestar vehicles left. They did not make an effort to tell everyone in line. They obviously have issues with communication as I have a reservation in the coming hours. Not worth saving a few hundred to deal with this. Go with turo or the other rental companies which have waaay shorter lines. Also theres a $100 cancellation policy within 24 hours.Edit: its $200 cancellation fee within 24 hours of rental... which Ill need to contest with them. Also, please just choose a different pickup location bc this was simply awful and inefficient.

Thrifty offers good and quick service and good cars, but you need to mind about all customer service phone numbers. Thrifty stations don't have good reputation in picking up the phone, cental numbers are much more kind and productive. While having pushed a majority of EV's in their offer, they still should firmly deny EV's to anyone intending to travel >100 miles, especially around US national parks. We had to exchange our EV to a fuel car in the middle, which we thankfully could do free of charge, but one could have spared the hassle. Make sure to ask a damage form, fill it in and make pictures of any suspected damage before leaving the station. It could save you a lot of trouble or discussion time during checkout.

They don't have cars they promise. Long lines for the counter. Long waits for the cars. They try exorbitant upselling. They try to sell unnecessarily expensive bridge toll packages. AVOID!

As usual, thrifty is one of the worst. You rent here because that's all that's left. They do their darndest to try to trick you into upcharging. Lies about your insurance not covering EV rentals. Unfortunately, car rental agencies are on par with used car dealerships, and thrifty is one of the worst.

The employees were super nice and helpful but there were only two counters open and the line took over an hour! After waiting over an hour they didn't have any of the cars that I RESERVED, so I was going to have to wait another hour for one to come back! They "upgraded" me to a fully electric, which was a hassle my entire trip to make sure I was charging it and to return it fully charged you have to do the last 20% with slow AC power only. What a pain. They MUST be able to see the number of reservations they have, why don't they staff accordingly, why don't the reservations RESERVE a car to be there for me? I felt stuck in a Seinfeld episode.

Wow. Wished I’d seen the reviews before booking. Prepare for waiting in line for ages. I did the check-in online and still have to wait for hours. Unbelievable, only 2 counters open and the pick-up only desk is closed.Reserved car NOT available. They try to upsell you to a bigger car or give you a much cheaper car for the same price. Told them they can cancell everything and rented my car in 10 minutes with AlamoNever Thrifty again for me.

Unbelievable 2-3 wait to pick up car. Least expensive of options but not worth it. Even if troy have a reservation , they don't honor it and tell you they don't have your class of car and try to give you an ev , or another class of car and charge you. Pathetic.

As usual. Just two counters open and long lines. There has to be a better way to serve customers. Prepare to spend hours waiting in line.Update: I would give Thrifty -5 stars if possible. I got to the counter after waiting in line for an hour and a half. They have cars on site but asked everyone to wait for 2 hours because the cars are physically blocked in. How is this even allowed? The only option is to rent another car for double the price.

Word to the wise. Never book a car with Thrifty Car Rental at SFO. They closed last night with about 100 people still in line because they were ‘running out of cars and it was past their closing time’. This was after we had all waited more than an hour because there were only two people working. Almost everyone in line had prepaid for their cars. Told us to come back today to pick up our cars. Not exactly a viable option at 12:15 AM to be told you don’t get the car you’ve already paid for if you were planning on leaving the Bay Area that night in said car. Suggest avoiding Hertz or Dollar Car Rental as the person making the announcement indicated all three share the same pool of cars at SFO. And based on their 1.4 star yelp reviews, guessing this is a nightly occurrence…

Incredibly long line that wrapped around three rows at the airport. 9 Agent stations with 4-5 open. (An agent disappeared into the back room for 20 minutes before she came back out to help customers). Super slow. It took almost a full hour just to get to the counter and speak to an agent. We were super-hard sold on upgrades and insurance. We got a Kia K-5. We were very happy with the car. Haven't returned it yet.

This place is the worst,we've made reservations a month in advance,I get here and there is a huge line... I overheard there is no cars available, I wait my turn, and they have the nerve to tell me there is only a Tesla for more money, take it or leave it....What are we.?.. Does the public don't matter anymore? Do we not deserve the consideration of been Informed,at least have a sign available so I don't have to waste 35 minutes in line. NO RESPECT FOR CUSTOMERS. NONE....
