About The Funk Zone

The Funk Zone in Santa Barbara is a vibrant and eclectic district known for its arts, culture, and lively atmosphere. Located between State Street and Garden Street, and from Montecito Street to Cabrillo Boulevard, it features a mix of historic marine structures, industrial lots, and houses that reflect its past in manufacturing, lumber, citrus, produce, and fishing. Over the years, artists, wineries, restaurants, art galleries, and shops have transformed the area into a creative and lively hub. The district is a walkable area with a friendly, safe environment, offering a variety of experiences for visitors. Throughout the 12–13 block zone, colorful murals, pop-up galleries, and artist studios in old warehouses create an outdoor art gallery under the sun. Visitors can enjoy more than 20 urban wine tasting rooms, craft breweries, and the city’s first distillery, along with dining options ranging from fine restaurants to casual eateries and food trucks. The area is perfect for strolling, with seaside spots to watch the waves, palmlined grassy beach alcoves, and nearby Stearns Wharf for sunsets and family outings. The Funk Zone caters to everyone—solo visitors, couples, families, and groups—offering activities like kayaking, paddleboarding, shopping, dining, and entertainment. Regular events such as art walks, craft markets, live music, and brewery tours keep the energy lively. While some visitors find it a bit tricky to navigate or locate a main entry point, most agree it’s a fun, artsy, and diverse destination packed with shops like ShopKeepers and Mollusk, and a variety of activities that make it a memorable experience for all.
