“We had such a great time with this class. They really let us get hands-on and involved in the process and it was so cool to experience it for ourselves. Between the three of us, we made a vase, a glass and a paperweight. Not too shabby for our first time, and I would definitely do it again because it was so much fun. Be warned it sure gets hot in there so dress accordingly and bring your sunglasses ?”

“Today is National Women's Day and I got a nudge. A nudge to review a local business owned by a woman who I personally admire. I immediately thought of my friend Jill and her amazing business Loveworn. In my head I thought that since I had reviewed it in the past I would update my previous review..... I looked and What??? I hadn't reviewed it before! I was dumbfounded, perplexed, puzzled and confused. How could it possibly be that I missed that!! So here goes. I have known Jill for decades, I hate saying that because she is a rare ageless woman that most people could not possibly fathom that her career success would possibly be what it is. Let me put it this way, Katie Perry, a few years ago was doing a concert in SB and reflecting on her High School years and an amazing store on State Street that when you purchased an outfit it would raise your self image to the point of life changing. Katie couldn't remember the name of the store but hundreds in the audience could. Jill's first successful Santa Barbara business! It was called True Grit .Jill has always been a fan of denim, a fan of vintage. Kind a fashion "savant". SB lost Jill for a few years but SB is somewhat magnetic and it drew her back in. Early in the days of the Funk Zone she took a risk. Opens a fashionable clothing store which was in a "funky" little location far from State Street. Her first year I had the privilege of renting the back 1/3 of the store as my tiny little motorcycle museum. Cool clothing and vintage motorcycles pair quite well. While Jill is high in fashion I am not. I honestly didn't "get it" now I do. Jill has SO much talent. She creates her own clothing, she customizes vintage clothing. From T-shirts to cashmere sweaters her custom touches take normal to an elevated level of Cool. What Katie saw in Jill's clothes rings true today but on a level ten times higher. While 3/4 of world might be happy buying whatever is fashionable from the newest store in the mall, many people want something a whole lot more special, a sweater, a jacket or a dress that matches their personality. A unique piece of clothing art that will never be seen on another person. Loveworn is very much a woman's clothing store but they do have items for men. My favorite motorcycle jacket, my favorite piece of clothing in this world is something Jill found and put in her store, like it was just for me”

“I live in Arizona. I purchased a first edition biography online from Biblio, that came from this bookstore. I love to collect first edition books by Aldous Huxley (most notable work Brave New World) and in collecting things from him I've also come to love some of the works from his family. And this shop had a very special book that was a biography on Aldous Huxley's grandfather, Thomas Henry Huxley. And this copy was presumed to have belonged to Aldous Huxley's brother Julian Huxley. Julian Huxley co-authored the forward of the biography with Aldous. The owners have no idea how special this book is to me. I have a fairly extensive collection. This is my new favorite. Being so rare I was totally in disbelief of what I had found online. I asked a question to the store via biblio. The owners reached out to me less than 24 hours later and answered my questions. Took more photos of the item. They were so incredibly kind and helpful. I also had a hiccup with shipping. When I paid via PayPal it dropped my apartment number out of the address, so USPS began to return the item. They quickly got it corrected for me, which was very helpful because I was out of town at the moment. I really couldn't say enough good things about this store. I will absolutely be buying from them again and can't wait to visit in person as well. Great service from great people. Well deserving of a 5 star review .”

“This is my wife's favorite store to visit when in SB. We visited here on Monday, Jan. 2 to pick up some of the perfume she likes getting from there and also a few gifts for our friends. The gentleman working at the register was so friendly, and wrapped our presents so beautifully. We love how this shop is decorated, how the products are so curated and that we can always find a one of a kind type of gift to give. Thank you to the gentleman working the morning of Jan. 2 for being so kind and talented w/the wrapping.”

“The girls that work here are friendly and helpful. We were on a mission to buy the perfect gift for our dear friend turning 60 this month. Waxing Poetic was just the right move. They didn't wrapped and accepted our 15% discount with the check in. I will always be happy to give them my business. Fun store...lots of clothing for folks under 50.”

“The prices here are amazing and highly competitive for such beautiful authentic rugs. I’m so happy I found this place and if you’re visiting Santa Barbara I highly y stopping by. They also have beautiful ottomans tables and vases and so many hidden vintage gems. The owner is also the kindest man who has been there for 30 years. Had such a wonderful experience here and found such amazing pieces. He has so many colorful rugs and neutral minimalistic rugs as well. The quality looks unreal.”

“Viva is in the Arcada shopping area and we got there just when they opened on a Monday; they were not crowded and we took a window seat. Our excellent waiter was Starky; he was friendly and helpful. My husband ordered a cadillac margarita and I decided to try the red sangria made with tempranillo, brandy, fruit juice and spices--it was delicious. Starky brought the chips and salsa--made without cilantro since I had mentioned that I don't care for cilantro. Surprisingly the tortilla chips were exceptional--crispy, still warm, and best of all, perfectly salted (we often find we have to add salt to the chips and when they are cold it doesn't stick). For lunch my husband ordered his favorite--cheese enchiladas--which he said were fairly spicy, the way he likes them. I asked for the enchilada al pastor, but they weren't ready yet so Starky suggested the beef costillo instead. I had some concern that it might be too spicy, buy it was excellent--very flavorful shredded beef with a couple of kinds of cheese and a slightly crispy tortilla. Yum! Starky kept our water glasses full. No room for dessert! We highly recommend Viva!”

“I don't want this place to change! I came back to Central Texas, and told my friends & co-workers about it, said they must go there.I hope those changes the City of SB wants to incorporate don't go through. We will frequent The Funk Zone if SB leaves it be . . . - 07/31/2022”

“Such a cute store! Super friendly staff! Beautiful quality pieces! Totally came in here unexpectedly when I was looking for another store. Step inside and immediately feel like you are on a dreamy beach vacay. Reminds me of the Calypso St. Barth stores from the past. Found a vintage sweatshirt that is nice and sustainable. Definitely check out the rest of the plaza, especially the post office!”

“A wonderful art gallery located in Santa Barbara/Montecito, offering curated fine art of notable California living artists. The gallery features work in oil of landscapes, seascapes, still lifes, figures, and Western art.The gallery is, for me, aspirational. It has exactly the sort of work I like to collect and I'd be happy to devote some precious wall space to it!”

“What a gem! The gallery is off State St. in the heart of Santa Barbara's shopping, restaurant and gallery district. A little off the path in La Arcadia, but it is a great place to visit if you're in the area. The lighting is so natural, with it's high ceilings and they have a mezzanine for featured artists. The gallery hosts are always so pleasant and helpful and the art is by all local artists. So much talent! All kinds of mediums, and from notecards, matted prints and truly beautiful originals, this is a must stop and check it out type of gallery.”

“So what's better than history, culture, food and a vibrant street scene? ART! Located directly next to the historic Arlington Theatre on State Street is this roomie serene art gallery. The breath of interesting works is quite remarkable and this gallery offers a rich and rewarding start to your adventure on State Street. One of the featured artists, Richard Schloss may actually be painting behind the scenes in the gallery. How cool that? Some of his works feature the other worldly qualities of rainy conditions around the area. They are deeply interesting and atmospheric! The staff is super laid back, knowledgeable and very in tune with the artists featured in their gallery. This rich experience was further enhanced by the adorable dog that accompanies the owners to work and has run of the gallery. The paintings in this gallery were amazing and you could certainly build a room or house around some of them!State Street is an experience like no other and this Art Gallery made it even more so. A must stop for anyone in the area!-G”
