“To my surprise, I thoroughly enjoyed the experience. The individuals there are not bothersome or attempting to persuade you to purchase anything. It is not necessary to have everything. In a peculiar way, they possess almost perfection. As a large individual, I intend to visit. Their prices are so extraordinary that they motivate me to lose weight.”
“Support local. Jaime has been a Jamul staple for 16 years now. She's personable, friendly and knows her stuff.Don't complain about feed stock as she can only do what the suppliers give her.Check out the trinkets and candy store.”
“Literally one of the best shopping experiences I’ve had! Great selection of vintage and local, women owned brands. The owner is also so so sweet. She offered all the customers complimentary drinks and just had awesome energy. I’ll definitely be back!!”
“Going in to see what treasures I can find here is always a joy. Trish, the owner is very special and fun to talk with while shopping. Never disappointed, always a pleasure!”
“Excellent record shop with surf boards, skate boards, collectables, clothing, etc. :) The owner, Mike, has a wealth of knowledge and very courteous. Will be returning soon.”
“Hard working friendly staff keep stocking up the treasures, great value and worth the time to browse the complete selection, clean restroom available to the shoppers.”
“If you are fun and funky and are missing something familiar. Hurry here! They speak your language! You can't move in, but you can revisit this eclectic assemblage of lovely items anytime and gift them away to others of our kind. Have fun, maybe a laugh.”
“I mean, if I were a store, this would be me. It's so fun, definitely can't go in there without at least trying and/or buying something. A mix of old and new, vintage, pre-owned, handcrafted accessories, clothes, shoes, etc. It's a fun store for sure.”
“Great experience here. Cozy vintage corner tucked next to Lestats. I always feel it's a great collection when I browse. The buyers have great taste, the items all have their own sense of attitude and "retro," and the staff is consistently friendly and helpful. They always ask how are you and say hello when you come in.I walked in to buy a birthday card one day, and also grabbed a flyer on the counter about their monthly selling day, which was the following Sunday.I came back with 2 bags of my own clothes on said Sunday I've been meaning to get rid of, some of them already on apps for sale. The experience from check-in, the short waiting time which I enjoyed anyway browsing the store, and the value I got back for the items they picked was all really positive. You are able to choose between 30% cash back or 50% store credit for the value your items will be priced at by La Loupe. I was happy with this because I've been in stores that do a 20% / 40% ratio or even 20% / 30%. I ended up even finding 2 pairs of vintage Levi's jeans that were (finally) in my size, and they were not expensive either. These vintage jeans right now go from anywhere between $50-250 depending on their year, condition, etc and La Loupe's were definitely on the lowest end of that. OK bag em baybee! In addition to a colorful and fun assortment of vintage clothing they also carry new items from local brands: dainty gold jewelry, BAGGU bags, organic / clean beauty products, plant pots, candles, all the cute stuff for gifts from small businesses.Support small, reduce your carbon footprint, shop 2nd hand”
“This is a large store that is currently stocked full of everything Christmas (and a small section of Chanukah items), all made by hand! From Christmas ornaments, candles, Santa wish lists, wood tables, giant, outside Christmas lights and statues, they have everything for the holidays. Lots of employees inside, and Christmas music playing to get you really into the spirit. This is more than a store...it's a experience!”
“I always find something when I stop in just to check it out..whether it's handbags, shoes, jewelry, cloths you can't beat the price! Check it out, you'd be back like me!”
“Mike, the owner, is knowledgeable and friendly. I found an amber vase for my daughter-in-law. I'll be back next time I'm in San Diego. Maybe next time we visit, we'll also go to the La Mesa Friday afternoon farmers market!”
“It's a Goodwill. It's a small store but it is very well kept and clean. The staff are hit or miss in friendliness but hey, it's a Goodwill. They do have a great theft prevention policy, stand at the counter and yell "you're not welcome here!" but hey, it's a Goodwill. It's nice that it's not surrounded by crackheads but every now and then one will ask you to buy them an entire outfit, but hey, it's a Goodwill. For its size it has a good selection of everything and offers a good way to spend some time as you cruise through lovely downtown La Mesa.”
“Amazing dresses and even better customer service. My girlfriend was looking for a 1940’s dress and found the perfect one there at a reasonable price. They have a great selection of quality dresses from all eras!!!! We are definitely coming back soon! We also did not have an issue with the “handling” of the dresses. She was able to try on multiple “fragile” dresses with no issue.”
“Awesome little thrift shop! It's a little tucked in La Mesa but a must see for cute little gems. Great prices and great service. Definitely check it out if you're in the area. Found a wooden utensil holder for only $3!!”
“We found the couch of our dreams here, and the staff was so helpful with us in purchasing it and saving it for us to pickup. We would come back anytime, thanks again!”
“I don't know what it is with San Diego thrift stores or if it's just California. What is with the pricing!! It's ridiculous. This is the only store that has nice quality and thrift store priced items. Closest store I've found to a *GEM*. Definitely come to this store so many good things. Still a bit on the pricey side but not too bad.”
“Always pay it forward.
This store has a great staff. They are friendly and welcoming.
The place is clean and very organized.
Sometimes you'll find a needle in the haystack. Just need to be patient.”
“I love shopping at Plato’s Closet El Cajon – every visit feels like a treasure hunt. The selection of gently used clothing is always fresh and surprisingly stylish, and the pre‑owned shoes are in great condition for the price. It’s a friendly thrift store where you can snag discount clothing without any hassle. If happiness had a location on Google Maps, it would be here.”
“Went in to sell shoes and had a great experience. My guy Daniel helped me out and was super gracious and kind with my time. I received an incredibly fair offer and will no doubt return when I want to unload more items!”
“This is my second time here and I really like it! Everything is well organized and nicecly decorated. I love the staff here, they are very friendly and helpful. but most important, I always find many valuable items here. I definitely recommend it, Cheers!”

“Savannah was such an amazing owner! She was honest and even gave my wife and I recommendations. We were here looking at the Wonderfold Wagons and I am so grateful for her thoughtful input!
We’d happily come back with our family!”
