A great day trip can be made of Solvang and Mission Santa Ines. My favorite part was the garden and graveyard. The wind rustled through the pepper trees and there was a definite moment of peace in my ever-roiling mind.

One of the beautiful and peaceful spot nearby the busiest town. You can walk here from the town. They do have tours but unfortunately I couldn’t register for it as there were private events going on both times. The view from the park next to the church is beautiful. They have benches over there. Just sit and experience the beauty.

I have been to about 12 missions. This one is on the smaller side, but nice location. Lots to do outside within walking distance.

Old Mission Santa Ines was founded in 1804 and named after St. Agnes of Rome. I was in the Solvang area and decided to check out this mission which was close by. They have daily mass at 8am and also have self-guided tours and a gift shop. They also have masses in Spanish. There's tons of parking at the church and I liked walking around the exterior and checking out the grounds.

I had a peaceful and beautiful time walking trough Old Mission Santa Ines last weekend. Late post. Will definitely come back. Their was mass on Sunday and was not able to see inside the church. Next trip will definitely have more time.

We visited the mission this past weekend. It's a nicely kept mission and the garden area was pretty, but the museum rooms are pretty small. We were rushed because the church service was going to start, so we only got to see the church for about 2 minutes. It was very pretty inside the church, and even thought was very hot outside, it was cool in there. The thick adobe walls are good insulators. We spent the most time out in the garden area enjoying the landscape. I've attached a few pictures from our visit.

It was ok. Not as beautiful as Santa Barbara, San Juan Capistrano, or some of the other missions I have visited. The museum rooms are pretty small. Nice that it is just a short walk from downtown Solvang.

Historic mission with active Catholic Church allows self-guided tours for $8. The tour covers the historic structures, models for past structures, some artifacts, original bells, historical timeline, access to the church sanctuary, the gardens and cemetery. There is also a good bit of artwork associated with the mission on display throughout. A paper guide is provided. There is a small gift shop, which is where you pay for the tour. Free public parking is available outside the mission, a very short walk. There are also restrooms adjacent to the parking lot. These are the only available restrooms for visiting the mission, but it is not a long walk.

Tremendously gorgeous church which is still in use today. Even if you don't get inside the church, the views near by are enjoyable. From walking around on paved paths, to admiring the architecture, and also looking at the overlook of vast grassy fields, this is an enjoyable visit in Slovang. Not a must visit in the city, but fun nonetheless.

Parking: free and in front of the mission with a big lot.Unlike other missions, this one is not state operated, it's a functional parish, the church and grounds have no entry fee. The church might be closed for private events like weddings at times. The church is beautiful and like old Mexican and European churches with lots of old icons, art and statues! I wish they used the old altar, the new one is out of place for the building.A must see if your in Solvang

We stopped by this mission when we were in Solvang for a day a couple of weeks ago. You can tour the mission for a small fee, and it's worth stopping by if you're in Solvang. There's a small museum and a very pretty chapel. Don't miss it when you're in the Danish Capital of America!
