Great local hangout, decorated back in the Reagan era. Fun, rustic vibe with the ambiance of an old tavern, a big bar full of friendly locals. Good comfort food.

The Nugget is a casual bar and restaurant reminiscent of an old miner's establishment, from the rustic façade on Summerland's Lillie Avenue to creaky wooden floors inside and walls filled with stuffed animal heads. The best dishes are just the sort of casual standards you'd expect at a place like this: spicy chili, burgers and sandwiches, and honey-dipped fried chicken. Locals like the crunch burger --- indeed, there is something texturally satisfying about a juicy burger wrapped in a crispy English muffin. Lighter mains include grilled wild salmon served on a bed of fresh greens, and a tossed Cobb salad. Regular patrons come for stiff drinks and hearty entrées like char-grilled lamb chops, a bacon burger smothered in guacamole, and a French dip served with chunky salsa alongside the jus. A brief wine list is comprised entirely of California labels, including Summerland Winery; its tasting room is located next door. If you are looking for a formal dining experience, this isn't it. If you want to hang at the bar, snack on traditional bar food and chat with friendly bartenders, you'll make new friends here.
