This is my go-to place for when I need to buy ice axe or trekking poles, or proper endurance running shoes, or hiking boots. The staff is very attentive, knowledgeable, and helpful. One of them encouraged me to buy Oboz Sawtooth boots even though they were a bit pricy, but that turned out to be a great decision. Best hiking boots I've had - very durable. The fitting rooms are nice and clean - I do sometimes see difference in price on stuff such as hiking pants between the store and online, in which case the store proves great for sizing and fit-check, then I can order on the REI website.

Great quality products at equal quality prices 𤯠You get what you pay for. If you want clothes to last, you better be willing to pay thousands!

Wendell Nelson at the Tustin store was outstanding and exemplified superb customer service! I am new to backpacking and needed a tent. He came to offer assistance, and took the time not only to help me find the right tent for me, but to come back and actually help me set it up to practice and to show me how easy it was to do so. I really valued and appreciated his personalized service. I shared with him that I was just at the Huntington Beach (HB) REI, hanged around for almost an hour hoping to get help with the tents and I was never acknowledged. I walked out.
A manager like Wendell is what will keep customers coming back. Angel was great too and very personable; she came to offer her assistance, I didn't even need to ask. HB should learn from the customer service level rendered at the Tustin location! Thank you Wendell and Angel!! I really appreciated the service and know I will have an amazing, well prepared backpacking trip!

I visited the Tustin REI store in a little before mid-July to prepare for my Yosemite Sub Dome hike and to replace my old Altra hiking shoes (by the way, I love Altra!). Although my survey link has expired, I wanted to take a moment to share my wonderful experience here.
Bryan and another kind gentlemanâwhose name I, unfortunately, forgot (Iâm so sorry, Sir!), he calls all female customers 'ma'am' :) âhelped me in the shoe section. Despite the store being busy with many customers asking for various sizes and brandsâincluding myselfâthey never once showed any sign of impatience or frustration. Every time I or other customers asked for different options, they responded with genuine kindness and professionalism.
Iâve visited this store occasionally in the past, but this particular day of my experience stood out as truly exceptional.
Also, Tom helped me find a light hiking chair and a head net to protect against flies. He really took the time to listen to what I needed and did his best to recommend the most suitable gear.
Thanks to their support, I had an amazing time on my Sub Dome hike just a week later in July âover 20 miles in a single day.
Big thanks to the Tustin REI team. I truly appreciate your kindness, professionalism, and the way you take care of your customers. đ

I came here for a bike fit. Although it was very basic, Darren helped me out and answered a lot of my questions. Some of the other employees in the bike dept. seemed annoyed but I appreciated Darren's positive attitude.

I too as a person to color felt like the employees at this location in Tustin wasnât trying to help me wasnât going to help me, and there was no point in me being in that store. I stood in front of three young white male employees who chose to goof around with each other rather than assist me. Having a Iâll get around to it attitude one of the employees finally ask if you can help me after about what seem like forever. I asked him where is the E bike section and do they carry chargers? He asked what type of charger am I looking for and in less than five seconds after me telling him he immediately says they donât have it he doesnât look he doesnât reassure me. He just says we donât have it and then he looks at his other employee with a grin and asked him do we have it and his other employee shakes his head, laughing, no. The way that they felt they could disrespect me and not even service me as a customer made me literally wanna snatch them from the counter and knock some respect into them because whoever hired them obviously felt it was a good fit. Then after dismissing me all three of them immediately go out of their way to assist the white lady behind me. She asked for a product they say Iâll go look for it and see if we have it in stock. Iâm not saying that the store is racist just the people who seem to be hired. Donât mind it. When are white people gonna stop holding us back for progression

My wife had a deeply upsetting experience at REI as a woman of color. An employee questioned her about our finances in a way that was invasive, rude, and clearly rooted in bias. We came in as a paying customersâyet we were treated with suspicion rather than respect.
This is not something that would have happened to a white man. There was no reason to bring up personal financial matters. The employee should have focused on helping with the sale, not making assumptions about based on looks
I expected better from REI. This kind of discriminatory behavior is unacceptable and needs to be addressed immediately.
We've been faithful customers for so long..
This is how you get treated.

Extremely disappointed by the treatment I received as a woman of color at REI. I was questioned about my finances in a way that was not only unprofessional but deeply inappropriate. Itâs hard to imagine a white man being interrogated like that while simply trying to shop.
Employees should focus on providing good service and making salesânot making assumptions about customers based on their race or background. This experience was offensive, humiliating, and unacceptable. REI needs to train their staff to treat all customers with equal respect and dignity.

It is always great to come here. Although it can get very expensive, at least 80% of what you get is high quality. Better than buying fancy brands that won't last. REI brand goes head to head in quality and design with the well known brands at a much better price.

I spent three hours of my time trying on and testing out gear and was unable to purchase it because the cashier insisted that the store manager doesn't allow manual entry of REI credit cards as her own policy. All other cashiers refused to assist as the manager explicitly told them not to. I did not have the physical card on me but opened the app and gave them all the information.
I have made purchases this way at other REIs multiple times and this is the first time it has ever been an issue.
