The Colorado Railroad Museum offers a great facility celebrating Colorado's rich railroad heritage. It is a fun and phenomenal day for the whole family, with many kid-friendly exhibits and activities. Visitors can stroll the 15-acre railyard to see dozens of locomotives, passenger and freight cars, and cabooses. While some cars cannot be entered, others can, and there are lots of train cars to climb on. The museum features an outdoor garden railway and an amazing, elaborate model railroad layout in the basement, though this area can be narrow.
The museum brings history back to life in its Roundhouse restoration facility with a working turntable. There is more material than one can digest. Very friendly staff and volunteers, including incredible guides on tours, are available to answer questions. Special events like Day Out with Thomas provide fun-filled days and souvenirs. The museum is affordable and mostly outside, making it a great summer venue with picnic tables. Visitors can also enjoy a little train ride around the property. It is a great place for train lovers and anyone who thinks trains are neat.
Very cool place if you like Railroad stuff. Our visit got cut short on the day we came due to weather. But the next time we are in the Denver area we will definitely come again.
