This is Sophie! While we did not adopt her from the Humane Society of the South Platte, we did get her spayed there on 3/13/24 due to affordability. WE WERE SO IMPRESSED! They treated her kindly, we were sent home with everything we needed, and they triaged a question we had a few days later. Her incision is small, lines approximated, and is healing perfectly. So happy we took her there, thank you to everyone who cared for her

Adopted my sweet cat here last summer. Staff isn’t super friendly, and they didn’t tell me about the health problems my cat had until after I had signed the adoption papers, leading to vet bills for health problems. Definitely ask before adopting here about the pet’s health info and behavioral history as I have seen some other reviews confirming this as well.

This is a place that does great work, but does still have humans...so mistakes can be made. It is understandable, not everyone can be a perfect puppy. We have been coming here for years ( 11 years). My youngest came to "read" to the dogs and then she decided the cats needed some stories too. They were so kind to allow us to spend time with the animals, because we live in a house and not a farm, we could not take all of them home, but this way we could still feel like we had dogs.It was about a year in to coming at least once a week, but more like once or twice a day. The dogs and cats were so much kinder then middle school girls, so the kennels became the place we came to relax. And then a cat found his way home with us. ( I mean he had to, his hips were messed up, so he needed extra love) and then a teenage dog begged us to come save him during covid. We have 2 more animals now, but got them from other shelters, because human make mistakes, and that is ok, because not everyone can be a perfect puppy. We still love you, and we when have rough days...we still come say hi to our human friends and then go be with the dogs and cats! Thanks!

If possible to give them a 0 rating, I would. If i could give a -10, I would. BEWARE: They violate their own policies! I have adopted from here before and it was an OK experience… Just OK. I’ve also donated food, strollers, beds, blankets, wheels for a disabled dog, etc. etc. etc. I’ve been here every day for a week waiting for a dog that was going to be available at noon today. Please note that I was told over and over by several staff members volunteers/staff could not adopt a dog until it was available to the public. Policy was CRYSTAL CLEAR… Dog was not theirs until yesterday and yesterday she would have surgery. No visitation from anyone yesterday. Dog would go online as available today at 9 AM today. Please note it is now 11:14a and the dog never went available online, so I just arrived physically here early before noon opening. I was told dog not here because a staff member adopted yesterday and it went home yesterday. Whaaaaat? Asked to see a manager. “Manager” Stephanie firmly stated “no, dog is here and has not been adopted.” I was thrilled and said great I want to come in and fill out an application. She then told me it was in the process of being adopted at the moment - BEFORE opening and BEFORE it went online (told policy) and BEFORE they even opened. I was told times this week that if multiple people are interested in a dog that there is a lottery and an application process, best home chosen. Please beware - do NOT fall for a dog or listen to anything you are told…lies. Fact - staff CAN (and WILL) swipe them right out from underneath you whenever they choose - and management could care less. Truth. I have always adopt dogs and have completely lost faith here at this facility that I have recommended to so so so many people. I do, however, keep faith that there are so many places in town to rent dogs… So many amazing places not only private institutions, but dumb, friends, league, and others… They run their facilities, professionally & ethically. Let me repeat… Management could care less. I asked to see the “Managers” Manager, but apparently she lives on another planet and does not communicate via phone and isNot available to the public or her staff. Very unfortunate situation.

I had a great experience having my girl spayed. I was nervous, but Sophia was wonderful, helpful, and reassuring! Everything, including healing, went smoothly! I am so appreciative too, of having an affordable place to have had this done! Highly recommend ( and have been recommending already)! Thank you!
