I went to a well-known postal and shipping supplies store today to see if they could trim 4 sides (with precise pencil marks showing the entire outline I wanted) of the matting on an original picture and then insert the trimmed version into a nice frame. They briefly attempted to do this but quickly gave up saying they couldn't cut through the less-than-half-an-inch backing. I was going to go home but noticed an OfficeMax a block or so away and thought it was worth going in and asking. Assistant-Manager Mikaela offered to assist me and quickly said she could do this for me. She completed the task easily in about 5 minutes or less, then handed it back to me in its new frame. Perfect! She was professional, super-competent and friendly AND showed initiative,-- the top four qualities most of us want in our day-to-day transactions with the world outside! Upper Management: please do your best to keep this wonderful employee and promote her or give her a raise! At the very least, tell her how valuable she is to your organization! - And thank you Mikaela--you're the best and yes, you made my day!
An afterthought: why couldn't a shipping and supplies store complete the very same task? After all, they had a sliding cutter and an exacto knife, the very same tools Mikaela used!”
