Never shop here! Ask questions about what is returnable or not prior to your purchase. Bought 12 gauge cord and after realizing I didn't need it the location told me it's a final sale and non-returnable. Thanks for screwing me. It's big box store for me going forward.

I’ve been renting all types of power equipment from this place for years. They are always busy and if you go there on weekend, be prepared to wait your turn to be helped. The owner is a great guy and has always given me some good tips on the jobs I’m about to tackle. The Hardware store next door is also great, with great customer service.. I will always use this store before any big box store.

Great local hardware and paint store, equipment parts and repair as well as rentals. Great staff and friendly service.

This place has saved my DIYer butt more times that I'd care to admit. We used to go in there regularly for hardware, and to rent equipment. I've moved out of the area, but still have relatives the next town over, and when I need something of a hardware nature. I pass several big box stores to get to City because I know they know what they are talking about.Earlier this year, when another locally owned hardware and rental place couldn't be bothered to do the most basic part number search for a pulley on an older lawn tractor, I went to City and not only did they bother, they had the part in stock. Yesterday, I needed another part for the same tractor, they didn't have in stock, but they were able to order it. And because of their knowledge, they cross-referenced the part number and found me the right part at a fraction of what the labeled brand would have cost. You can't replace that type of expertise. You don't know what you've got until it's gone. Local hardware stores have been losing out to the big box stores for decades. The True Value in Southington closed decades ago, and our local True Value in New Milford just closed last week. The loss of that institutional knowledge is immeasurable. Can the staff sometimes be a little gruff? Maybe, but I'll take gruff and able to solve the problem over just ignoring you or not knowing what they are talking about any day.

The bad reviews circle around two things - old, worn out rental items, and "poor customer service". Both make sense but are not worth a one star review. Everyone in there seems very knowledgeable, handles multiple jobs, and helps a wide array of people with many issues. You're not dealing with someone who is paid to stand in a warehouse and point you to isles, or to spend twenty minutes presenting you with a wide array of mowers. These are hardworking folks who can offer real, efficient, help with everyday needs. No, they won't have a million options (though they have an impressive selection) but you simply cannot understate the value of a small, local hardware store. Haven't been burned yet.

Usually I’m able to come her with my dad to get tools and appliances but on the Fourth of July, when we went to go get the bounce house reserved, they said we couldn’t get it because it was going to rain! Absolutely absurd! They should have gave us a heads up. Now the kids don’t have anything to bounce on at the 4th of July party.

I believe in supporting local businesses but this staff is rude and condescending every time. Done - going to Home Depot. ?

I have tried this place several times. And I would much rather support a smaller business than Home Depot down the street. Even though their inventory selection is ok their customer service is sub par.

I don't usually write bad reviews. But had my riding lawnmowers oil change done here it came back home and I started mowing well the engine blew up. They never put the new oil in it. Now I have to buy a new mower because of them.
