“I have a 2014 Subaru Outback with 180,000 miles on it.
The check engine came on, and I took the car to a Subaru dealership. They let me know that the code was 2763 which indicates a problem in the transmission valve body.
They told me I had to replace the entire transmission for close to $7,000 versus around $2,000 for the valve body. I thought that was excessive and wanted to get a second opinion and took my car to Portland Automotive.
Portland Automotive thoroughly diagnosed the problem and confirmed that one of the valves was bad in the valve body and said I had to replace the valve body only.
They replaced the valve body in a timely manner, but unfortunately, when I got home, the check engine came back on and now there was a noticeable problem with the transmission.
I called Mike at Portland Automotive and he immediately said he’s going to send a tow truck to pick up my vehicle and take it back to the shop and make it right. Unfortunately, on the way back to Portland Automotive on the tow truck something happened to the radiator which caused it to start leaking.
Instead of charging me for a new radiator, they replaced it at no charge. They also redid the entire valve body repair and tested the car for three days to make sure everything was OK.
I’m happy to report as of now it is running smoothly.

“These are the most honest mechanics I've ever met. Another shop told me that my torque converter is bad and I needed an $8k transmission (but they told me that I could still drive the car?). Something felt off and I wanted another opinion, so I called Portland Transmission. They got me in next day. I dropped the car off at 9:45 AM and they called me at 12:30 PM with a diagnosis: it wasn't the torque converter or anything in the transmission, but a misfire in the engine. Went to pick up the car and they charged me NOTHING for diagnosis. If they were in it for the money, they easily could have told me that the first mechanic was correct or charged me for diagnosis. Very grateful for the honesty. Will go to them if I ever need transmission work and will recommend them to everyone I know!”
