I had a very disappointing experience at the Greenwich YMCA. During my visit, I encountered repeated interruptions and a dismissive attitude from a staff member, Carlos, whose tone was harsh and embarrassing. When I requested to speak to a manager to address my concerns, there was no one available except the same individual who had been discriminatory toward me.
From my understanding, this situation demonstrates a lack of support and oversight for members who raise legitimate concerns. I felt that the handling of my complaint was unprofessional, leaving me frustrated and disrespected. I hope the YMCA leadership takes these matters seriously to ensure all members are treated fairly and respectfully.

Love the huge pool! I have yet to wait for a lane to do my laps. The pool is always clean. The gym is very good as well. This Y has a lot of activities for young and old alike.

My experience is limited to the pools but both well deserve 5 stars. I particularly love the Olympic pool. Water temp is always just right and it’s a special treat when the full length is open.

Wonderful staff and although the facility is old, they keep it nice and refreshed. Great weight room and trainers. I see different trainers working with people throughout the day and all seem very dedicated with their one-on-one. Overall the staff tries to instill an overall sense of community and belonging, and I believe they have succeeded.

I’ve been a member at the Greenwich Y, on and off, since the 1980’s. I use to go when I was a kid back in school and I loved the place. The facility has been upgraded so it certainly looks better than years ago. But don’t judge a book by its cover. The place has become a cardio focused gym. Very little weights or weight equipment so there is often a long line to use it.
The thing I dislike the most are the poor attitudes of some of the staff and trainers. Wow, they are not nice and down right nasty. I suppose this is a reflection of their management.
For over $120 per month there are better gyms. This isn’t the Y I remember from my youth. If you really like Y’s, I recommend the one in Darien. Great facility with lots of weights and cardio.

It really makes my day every day I go to the YMCA of Greenwich. The olympic sized pool is amazing. Every member of the staff is friendly and helpful. I only visit when I am visiting from out of state but I've been especially impressed by one of the trainers in the gym, whose name is Lamont. He always has such a positive demeanor. I overhear him coaching and encouraging others and his positive spirit is contagious...I feel encouraged too, just overhearing him. Hats off to everyone at the YMCA of Greenwich, including their very generous benefactors and donors.

I have called several times and have gone to request financial help and since I arrived at the counter and without any reason, without losing my documents or me proving my income, they denied me the help. They said they would call me, they never did. They are racists. I don't like how they treated me. I treated them with respect but I didn't feel that they cared.

This is based on the interaction I just had signing up with Judy. Clearly she was not pleased that I came to sign up at the Greenwich location, especially since I have medicare due to LEUKEMIA. She was short, rude and just unpleasant to deal with. After staring me up and down, she curtly asked if I had my member number (from United healthcare). I said "yes, already prepared" with a smile. That made her more mad. I came in with a smile, excited to join. Her whole attitude and demeanor was that I'm not welcome. I don't read into things and I don't like to make things about race but I have a feeling she didn't like me because of my skin color or she really is just a miserable person. I was dressed nice, polite, smell clean, smile on my face and no attitude so this is the only reasonable conclusion I can come to. Anyways I'm signed up, I have no idea where anything is and Im sure if I asked It would have been met with more attitude. Don't worry Judy, I'm moving out of the northeast Feb 1, never to return. I'm moving to a place with kind people that enjoy life. You can keep your Y in Greenwich. And btw I'm a big time trainer and massage therapist that has worked in high end clubs in the city with a long list of clients. If you worked in any establishment I did you would have been terminated.
