I wanted to take up swimming again after a very long break. I am new to the area and thought I’d check out this Y.
I am very impressed! Very clean facility and pool, welcoming atmosphere and awesome friendly staff.
It’s been several weeks and I’m very happy I joined. The pool is not overly busy and you can reserve lanes for laps.

Staff doesn't care about kids bullying other kids and will punish the parent for stopping their kid from getting beaten by other kids. How disgusting. Please don't send your kids here.

Member here, for 2+ yrs.
While the bldg is old, over 100 yrs, they are consistently working on updates and improvements. Everyone at the front desk has been helpful and kind when I have needed their help. The facility is kept clean inasmuch as as patrons will do their part. Mike's spin class and Jocelyn's Yoga class are what keep me coming to this facility from Milford. Mike and Jocelyn are great instructors. I also use the cardio and weight rooms frequently. There are plenty of machines and free weights, have never had to wait to get a workout in.

This YMCA does not have their shit together. They have a schedule for the gym but they do not honor it. Almost anytime I come to use the gym, there are little kids in there and they claim it's for a program. However, when I look at the schedule it clearly says open gym. They have no problem taking over the gym regardless of what the schedule says. It's the same thing with the pool. Go to swim during open swim hours and the pool is closed. What's the point of having a schedule if you won't honor it? Just bad business all around.

I have been a member of the men's room at the y for over 30 years. For years it was very good. I have seen a total decline in the men's area. Today I came for just a shower. There was no hot water. Absolutely not the first time. The hot tub in men's area always getting shut down and is ancient. The heat inside can not be adjusted. Either super hot or super cold. It use to be a place where men came and after their workout maybe sat and watched TV. They were suppose to put back the chairs and couch they had, but never did. The incompetence is total. No one know how to fix anything. The bathroom has no door, so if you have to go, you have Absolutely no privacy. The carpets are worn and very old. There is one tv in corner, that usually has Fox News on it. It should not be a political area to begin with. The amount that the charge for ( the extras ) is extremely high. Like 800$ a year. The membership of the elderly men in this section has gone done dramatically. I personally feel that no one cares about the older men there. No money ever goes into permanent repairs. I also had issues with how staff had treated my grandkids in the past, but I let it go. It was traumatizing to the max. It would not have happened to others. The pay must be bad because the supervisors over kids was horrible when my grandkids were there. I can't say if it improved , but reading your reviews, I don't think so. I grew up as a child going to Ansonia YMCA. I Love the ymca I used to know. Now it's just, oh it's broke. Over and over. Almost like the staff is laughing at us. Oh, it's down for a week. Turns out to be a month. Very ,very disappointed. And I'm sure you will just dismiss this, like everything else.

Most front end staff either has no training or no clue what there job is. I was a member to teach my daughter to swim. We went to the pool whenever the small window for open swim came. The pool was closed. They would send me to another town to swim, The pool would be closed there too. After that I cancelled. And went back to see if I can buy a day pass to workout, someone with a raspy voice at the front desk had no clue what buying a day pass is. They assume I want to try the facilities for the day for free. Very frustrating. After my daughter private swim lessons are finished so if my involvement with the Naugatuck YMCA. For a family package with swimming it’s almost $1,000 a year. I would expect better equipment, some new amenities besides a spinning room, and a trained staff.

I like this place. Clean and welcoming! The CHILD WATCH is a great program! I could only wish that child watch starts at 5:30pm since all the CLASS starts 5:30pm. Or atleast the CLASSES starts at 6pm since child watch starts at 6pm either one would be great! We have been looking for a gym with a child watch now, YMCA is the answer! Love this! It’s helping people in our community!

I pay for a membership for my daughter and niece. But what I don't agree with is that we have to call to see if we can use the pool, or if they are going to have swimming lessons and it turns out that the times they have for those lessons are right when the kids get out of school. And then the schedule resumes at times when the kids obviously can't use them anymore, because they have to go to bed early for school.

Lynn, the swimming manager, is incompetent. She is hostile towards her staff and never is able to answer questions. Nor is she helpful to customers. She brings down the whole YMCA experience.

The first negative review I posted I was called about and I took it down out of kindness- because they where so concerned over how they would look- the staff was more worried about the review then the concern with my childs safety. I will not remove this one. My daugther is enrolled in 3 different classes. The staff still does not care about the languages used by the younger guests!
But todays biggie was that My bank card was charged today WITHOUT my permission. Lynn had no right to run my card at all without my permission- Saturday morning I was there for my daughters dance class, i asked the front desk girl to sign my child up again for private swim lessons and to pay for it, she told me that I was unable to sign her up or pay Saturday because Lynn did not put through the proper paperwork…. Feel free to check your cameras- I spoke to the younger girl at desk for over 5 min….So now Today I woke up to a $125 charge and a $35 overdraft fee. As we all know times are tough financially for everybody. As a single mom, this was the worst thing to see during the summer. I Try to have my daughter involved and as much as I can to keep her active. But the YMCA has caused me nothing but trouble since I signed her up. Once this session is over, I truly don’t know if I would sign her up again- i am disgusted at Lynn and how she continues to treat me and my family- last session it took over 2 months for her to sign my child up “because she forgot!” now she runs my bank card without permission!!??? - This is supposed to be a family environment , this is supposed to be community building and you have staff members that are running guests cards on file for payments without their permission- I have left a voicemail and the only person that I can talk to is Gary at the front desk- Who by the way needs a raise because he seems to be the only one with manners. Lynn needs to be spoken to- she is rude to her employees, she makes fun of children in the pool (my child I have heard her say 2 things about before- ask her about the belly flop- now my child is embarrassed when she does that instead of laughing) & now lynn is processing payments without permission !!???? This is ok YMCA?!! & don’t you dare blame the swim instructors because we all know they are not in charge of taking payments and maybe the management should listen to the staff when they bring up issues about Lynn!!!!!! A little dated but has the essential machines needed for a gym. Bonuses, basketball court, volleyball, child watch with rock climbing. Has three rooms dedicated to the gym, one cardio, one cable machines, and one free weight room. One of the few places that watch your child while you work out.
