I had a reservation and completed all of the pre-check in information. After 35min of waiting in line behind only 2 couples, Lisa was still unable to find my reservation and unnecessarily rude.

Avis put my entire family's life in danger. They gave us a car with a flat tire and we trusted they gave us a functional vehicle. We hit the highway when the car lost control, with my parents and siblings all in the car.

Reserved SUV via AARP app that said save up to 35% for members. Show membership card to AVIS agent Signed up for Preferred. Arrived at Bradley International Airport & Preferred was closed. Waited 45 minute & reserved vehicle not available. Agent said I didn’t need to show my AARP card & discount was only $15. Offered a minivan, truck, or EV. Was told I could exchange the vehicle the next day - 45 minutes away. Told I could return the EV with 60% charge but had to sign paperwork stating 70% required. No instructions provided on how to drive or charge the vehicle. Not given any copies of the paperwork I signed. Paid over $1100. for 2 weeks use. Very stressful & expensive.

I dont know whats with the bad reviews. I reserved the car they day before, was the only rental that had one available. Honored the reservation, was quick, the clerk was polite and very helpful. Would highly reccomend. Dropped off the rental at Lebanon NH with no issues as well.

(Budget gave me a car from your fleet)They charged me over $600 for one of the worst rentals of all time. And after viewing all of the issues (which I took pictures of), maybe you will agree.
First and foremost, I understand that it was a holiday weekend and rentals were scarce. However, this is NOT an excuse for ANY rental company to offer their customers subpar vehicles.
Here are a list of my issues:
1. The rep at the counter made it a point to tell me to return the car with a full tank, but as soon as I got in, the tank was half full. (See pic, compare mileage)
2. As soon as I got home, the low tire pressure light came on (I live 12 minutes from the airport-see pic). It was the front right tire. Upon further inspection, a literal chunk of the tire was missing. Over the course of the time we had this car, we had to carry a portable tire pump to inflate the tire at the end of every day. So much for convenience.
3. The second day, the check engine light came on. Amazing! (See Pic for reference). The last thing I expect to do with a rental is to worry about it breaking down and putting my safety in danger.
4. Dirty. All surfaces were sticky and car smelled bad (the air coming out of the ac). Also, when putting the back seats into their upright position, a spring flew out towards my face- is this even normal ?
You gave me the worst car on the lot and apparently think it makes sense to send me a bill for this amount.
Your vehicle was untrustworthy, dangerous and should be removed from your fleet to have maintenance performed on it immediately. Please stop putting the lives of your customers at stake due to your carelessness

This is for a budget rental (which is at this Avis counter). I just flew 17 hours for a funeral and had the rudest, most unfeeling service ever. First of all, I have fastbreak for a reason - all my settings are pre-set so it saves times and I don't need to go through the whole insurance, fill gas tank, EZ Pass situation every time. She goes through these, fine. Then insists on asking questions about my insurance coverage that I've never received before. And she's mumbling over and over so I can't understand. I'm barely holding in my tears and I'm trying to explain that I don't need coverage. Then she talks into her radio about how she has a customer with an attitude. Then she hands me my paperwork and says it again under her breath. Mind you, I'm just trying to keep it together and not cry in front of this line of people. I tell her I'm sorry, I'm here for a funeral and word for word she says, 'that's no reason to take ya attitude out on me' and dismisses me.

Received an email about 25% off discount and needed a car for 4 days, got the smallest sized SUV with no insurance and no add ons yet my totals at $551 AKA $138/day beware that any “50/day $40/day” or anything like that is far far from reality!
Also I did it online without any add ons but when picking up and paying in person they added on one of the protection plans so that $971 would be charged to me ($771 total + $200 hold), and were not going to say a word about it until I asked why the price became even higher.
Would appreciate more honest advertising when it comes to pricing!

The ONLY reason for a 4-star vs a 5-star was a safety concern. May be a concern to some and not to others but it was to me. After getting in 7 hours behind schedule, the staff @ the counter was very helpful. The car was where they said it was which was very close to the bldg exit. The windows in the car were filthy. New England, 0300 in the morning, humidity, fog, etc didn't make for safe driving with the inside of the windows/glasses and mirrors being so dirty. No, not actual dirt per se, just heavy film. Didn't really want to have to look for something that early in the morning to have to clean windows with. no, the staff at the counter didn't have anything. Just made the 100-mile drive, in the dark, in the fog and light mist...not that enjoyable.
**UPDATE**. NOTHING at all from Avis Car Rental in for form of a reply other than the automatic generated AI response.

Do not rent from this location. I was charged a one way fee for a vehicle I returned to the same airport (Hartford Bradley) but they are saying was returned to JFK airport. That was not the case. They refuse to wave the one way charge even though their information is correct. Logistically speaking it is impossible to return the car the same day that they said I picked it up and dropped it off within an hour and they refuse to check the cameras.

I arrived at the airport on 12th April in the morning. I attempted to book Avis car online but the app failed miserably. So I walked over to AVIS Preferred desk where I was greeted by a furious agent. She refused to take my wizard number and issued me the same car that I had seen online, but $50 more expensive. She never asked me for insurance options.
It is shocking how little AVIS cares for its customers.

Yes, everyone has a negative experience at car rentals, so they all have low reviews. But Avis is special. They are the only car company I have ever used that systematically adds a fuel charge to almost every rental. Here is my experience: I have rented from Avis 9 times in the last 10 months. In each case, I return the car full (gas station is 3 minutes from Bradley airport in CT). In seven of those rentals, Avis added a refueling charge. In all seven cases, when I later contacted Avis, they admitted the "mistake" and reversed the charge. Obviously this is not a mistake, but a systemic practice of fraud. I suspect most customers do not notice or choose not to pursue the additional charge. This fraud by Avis has become a profit center.

I’m appalled with the customer service I received this afternoon regarding my car rental experience. I arrived at the counter and was greeted by a rental agent who I believe was Jamaican, I unfortunately didn’t get her name and usually don’t leave these kinds of reviews. I travel for work very frequently - my rental car was a Chevy Malibu and the rental time was around 2:30 PM EST. I asked a simple question: “how much will this rental be?”. The agent stated at me and blankly said “I have no idea” in a way that implicated that I’m an individual of low intelligence. She then mumbled something about looking at the screen to see how much it was. The price tag was about twice how much it was indicated to be on my initial reservation and I then asked why the cost was that high. The agent then proceeded to speak slowly at me once again implying that I am a low IQ individual, saying that there’s a holding cost on the vehicle for incidentals. In general it was an unfriendly, unprofessional experience and I may switch to a different company moving forward as I’ve never experienced this amount of rudeness when simply trying to travel for work. I hope that other customers have a more pleasant time renting from this location than I did today.
