The Hirshhorn Museum is a three-story, cylindrical free modern art museum on Independence Avenue, ideally located near other Smithsonian museums. It features a permanent collection with works by many notable artists and a sculpture garden. The experience varies based on the current temporary exhibits, which are frequently highlighted as what makes the museum unique and great. Past and present exhibits, such as those by OSGEMEOS, Yayoi Kusama, and Simone Leigh, are described as amazing, beautiful, unique, and thought-provoking. The museum is praised for its great collection and thoughtful curation, though some permanent exhibits can feel repetitive. Visitors appreciate that the art is spaced out, allowing each piece to breathe, making the visit manageable and not overwhelming. The building itself has a stunning balcony with a famous view, though access is noted as now limited. The main floor can be crowded. While free, timed tickets from the website help with crowd planning. The gift shop offers unique items, and gelato and coffee are available, though more food options are suggested. Some exhibits, especially popular ones, can be very crowded, requiring quick movement. Overall, it is considered a highlight for many tourists, recommended for at least one trip a year to see the changing exhibitions.
3 story free art museum. Your experience might vary based on the current exhibits but the current OSGEMEOS exhibit was a treat. Tickets aren't required but they do help the museum crowd plan if you sign up on their website.

This museum was so much more than I expected. Works by so many of my favorite artist. We actually stumbled upon it by accident, and thank goodness we did. One of the highlights of our trip to DC last week.
