Metro Center is a major transfer point in the DC Metrorail system, at the central point for many downtown attractions. It is within walking distance to a large number of historical sites, shopping, and dining. The station is clean, modern, safe, and efficient, considered one of the best public transit systems. It is a very large station with two levels and uses the Blue, Silver, Red, and Orange lines, making it one of the few stations where switching to the Red line is possible. There is plenty of foot traffic relative to other stations. The station is easy to navigate with plenty of escalators, clear and accurate signage, and an elevator, though it can be slow. There are maps and options to top up your card at kiosks that take Apple Pay, cards, or cash. The machine to purchase SmarTrip cards can be a bit confusing. The staff are helpful and great with directions. Transfers between lines, such as from Orange to Red or Red to Silver, are quick, smooth, and easy, often with on-time service and not too crowded.
We still build cathedrals, just not with marble. As a first time user, it was pretty easy to navigate this beautiful station and the whole Metro system itself

My wife and I visited Washington DC and we felt very safe riding the Metro.
It took us time to get used to where we were going. But it didn't take us long to learn.
