Metro Center is at the central point from many of the DC downtown attractions and therefore is a major transfer point in the Metrorail system. This station is walking distance to a large number of historical sites, shopping and dining.
NOTE: We've traveled within 30 countries spread across most of the globe and all 50 U.S. states. The D.C Metro public transit system is one of the best we've traveled on. We used it extensively during our recent 9 days within the Washington D.C. area (including buses) and it's a clean, modern, safe, and efficient way to travel.

This is pretty much the center of downtown per its name. This station has two levels/platforms to make switching lines easy. This is one of the few stations where switching to red is possible. Metro Center uses Blue, Silver, Red, and Orange lines. The only line this doesn't serve is Yellow.
Plenty of escalators, maps, and options to top up your card. Kiosks take Apple Pay, cards, or cash.
Expect some foot traffic here relative to other stations.

Grand, clean, multilevel, and easy to access station with Red, Blue, and Orange line trains available.

It’s a very large station so plan ahead if you’re transferring or exiting. I’m very familiar with it so it’s not hard to navigate.
