About Middle East Institute
The Middle East Institute, founded in 1946, is the oldest Washington-based institution dedicated solely to the study of the Middle East. It is a non-partisan think tank providing expert policy analysis, educational and professional development services, and a hub for engaging with the region's arts and culture. The Institute has a small, intimate, well-curated art gallery open to the public, as well as the Oman Library located in an old carriage house across the courtyard. Visitors can attend interesting discussions in person or view them online. The Middle East Institute's Languages Program offers excellent instruction in Arabic, Farsi, Hebrew, and Turkish. Instructors such as Sheri, Farshid, and Zahraa are praised for their thorough and efficient teaching methods, covering history, culture, and language skills. Students report significant improvement in their vocabulary and conversation abilities.

I have such lovely memories of taking language and calligraphy classes here many years ago. One of the hidden gems of DC.

The Middle East Institute has a small, intimate, well-curated art gallery (open M-F, 10 am to 5 pm, free admission). It’s refreshing to see art that is not well-represented in mainstream media.
