“What an incredible experience! The National Bonsai & Penjing Museum is truly one of Washington, DC’s hidden gems. I've always had an appreciation for bonsai, but seeing these incredible trees in person takes that appreciation to an entirely different level. The history, patience, dedication, and artistry behind each tree are absolutely fascinating. Some of these trees have been cared for over generations, and it's amazing to think about the time and effort involved in creating something so beautiful. The entire experience is peaceful, relaxing, and a refreshing change from the hustle and bustle of DC. It's one of those places where you find yourself slowing down and appreciating the little details. Whether you're a bonsai enthusiast or simply looking for something unique to experience, I highly recommend visiting. Absolutely worth the stop, and somewhere I'd gladly return to!”

“I attended the NACA full-day program and found it to be exceptionally well-organized and thorough. The event provides a complete continuum of services under one roof—there are options to do everything from attending the mandatory workshop and using their computers and scanners to upload your documents, to sitting down one-on-one with a counselor, and even moving forward with the underwriting and real estate departments. Even though I still have a few documents left to upload, my counselor was incredibly helpful at pinpointing the specific items I still needed and giving me a clear, actionable to-do list. I can't wait to see the fruits of all this labor!”

The murals are incredible and the art exhibit upstairs was just amazing. My students loved the greenhouse room and music room the most.”

“This bike shop is conveniently located in Eckington, near the NoMa-Gallaudet Metro station and the Metropolitan Branch Trail. It's THE place to get a professionally refurbished bike (with cute lil stylish details) for $200-400! They have volunteer nights where you can come learn to fix bikes — including nights especially for people of color, women/trans/femmes, and LGBTs! They have a youth program called Earn-a-Bike where teens fix up a bike they get to keep for free. They are closed on Sundays and Mondays, but open at noon every other day of the week.”

“A great organisation that cares. One that helped me see America in a different light. As someone who has had the privilege of beginning their volunteering journey some 13 years ago and blessed with opportunities along the way to lead programmes, I believe the hallmarks of any decent programme include (1) being client-first and never volunteer-first; (2) conducting a well thought-out orientation where volunteers learn about how the programme came about, its ethos, the guidelines the organisation puts in place to protect its clients; (3) having strict rules and expectations of its volunteers so as to protect clients; and (4) understanding the power of words — not referring to humans as, say, beneficiaries but as guests or clients. Miriam's ticked all the boxes for me. I particularly like how volunteer manager Martha Wolf highlighted the power of making sure the homeless have a choice, even if it's something as small as whether you want cranberry juice or orange. Learnt a lot from the volunteer orientation. I love the 6am to 8.30am breakfast session & I am grateful for the privilege of getting to start my day bright and early on such a happy note & getting to chat with people ^_^ Thank you for the opportunities & I hope one day we do end the plague of chronic homelessness because no one is ever less deserving than another of safety, shelter, dignity and love.”

“I was invited to attend an opening in the building's art gallery. The interior of the building is a work of art in itself!Masculine feeling and great angles and interior/exterior vistas everywhere! (Many of the windows from the interior are angled because of the round or curved walls.) Outside, windows look like a regular office building.The fortunate employees who work in this building: common spaces, meeting rooms, the auditorium, work spaces and the bathrooms are very 2019 - design-wise, light-wise and electronic-wise. Heard, but did not see the roof deck - apparently to die for - you can see the roof deck trees from the street.Uncertain younger staff appreciates all the amenities. I think they take for granted. This office building is probably in the 97 percentile when it comes to great buildings to work in.”

“2.09.2026: Today, I actually took the leap and covered this beautiful and historic space. I was somewhat surprised to find that it's a functional building on the ground floor. On the 2nd and 3rd floors are high ceilinged rooms that exhibits art from the local practitioners of the arts. There were hardly any people there, and, I had the place mostly to myself.... always a good thing. The highlight of the visit was the awesome wrought iron gate that surrounds Hill Center. I'm a sucker for black metal...and even more so for ancient black metal. Let alone that the design of the gate was worth it's place in a Hollywood movie. The gate did it for me.”
