“If you’re not from DC or are not familiar with the public transportation then you’ll probably get lost in this station. There are signs and maps that could help you but be sure to ask the metro staff for help. I would have say the metro staff are the kindest people I have met in DC so far, as long as you are friendly and respectful to them.”

“Washington D.C. Union Station – Metropolitan Lounge I was at the redeveloping station determined to be out of the U.S. for the week of July 4, 2026, so that I could avoid the semi quincentennial spectacle. Amtrak Vacations developed an itinerary that would take me from Union Station to Chicago, then to Seattle, then to Vancouver, Jasper, and Banff. Visitors will be seeing many changes in the station, affecting where and how passengers wait for their train. The changes include a dedicated waiting area for Amtrak ticket holders and a Metropolitan Lounge for sleeper-car passengers. The station features Wolfgang Puck on the second floor, Chopt and Chipotle among others in the food court below the main floor, and a reliable McDonald’s near the departure gates. Amtrak Vacations agent Kevin Guadagnoli did an outstanding job arranging my itinerary, starting with booking me a sleeper from Washington, D.C. to Chicago, then forward to Banff. The trip officially started with a stay at the Metropolitan Lounge in Union Station, Washington, D.C. I’ve been traveling through Union Station for about 15 years, and this was the first time I saw the inside of the Metropolitan Lounge. Nothing fancy, no free alcohol, but a decent array of soft drinks, coffee, tea, and snacks, all complimentary. One perk is the interaction of Amtrak’s Red Cap service personnel. They enter the lounge and can deliver luggage directly to your sleeper (if it’s not clear, these workers depend on tips they earn handling your stuff; be respectful and generous if you use their services).”

“It's nice to have the bus as a transportation option between NYC and D.C., however, the new location at 11th Avenue in Manhattan is quite the walk from Penn Station - a major transit area which also served as Bolt Bus' original location. The walk from Penn to the Bolt stop on W.36th and 11th takes 30 minutes at a steady pace. I hope this helps!Bolt Bus was much cleaner 3 years ago. It appears their standards have lowered.”

“Visiting from out of town and my first Zipcar experience in DC area. The instructions to find the car are pretty detailed. App makes it very easy to make reservations. I did have trouble booking a one way trip so ended doing a round trip instead. I also couldn't figure out how to give the car to valet since I had to lock it. Other than that, it was convenient, easy and gave me a car for a half day to run errands. Very helpful to have in the city”
