“I have been a customer here for decades. I bought a pair of xc skis and boots there about 5 years ago but have hardly worn them, maybe 4-5 times. When we had our big snow storm in January this year I put them on and hoped to go for a long ski but immediately the sole peeled off one of the shoes and the binding clip came off too. I had never had a problem with any product I bought from this store. The other shoe looked like new. I went to the store with the good and defective boot and asked for replacements. Turns out they no longer carry xc ski equipment in Newark store. But the manager Nick said they had one pair my size at their other store. He offered it to me at half price. Since they had different bindings I would need new bindings too. He replaced those for free. They really did the right thing by me and I am grateful to have new boots and bindings for a reasonable replacement cost. Thanks Nick!”
“Today was the very first time someone in this store gave be the absolute best customer service, don’t get me wrong I have never had a bad experience here but today when I walked in I was greeted by Ava she asked was I looking for something specific walked me over to what I was looking for, gave me suggestions, helped me find my size and she was so sweet and nice the whole time. “Got fitted for a whole bag today and what a super experience! Matt was my fitter. He made me feel completely at ease so I could focus on which clubs I liked best rather than being concerned about impressing him. He told me the goal was to find clubs I felt most comfortable and confident with.
I wasn’t necessarily interested in just buying a set, although I was kinda keen on the TaylorMade Kalea Gold clubs, so we started with a 7 iron. I hit a lot of balls and he brought out a lot of irons—more than I had on my list and some much cheaper. I ended up with a set of Ping G Le 3 irons: 7-9, PW, SW. Then we moved onto the hybrids. I think I tried 6. Ended up with a 5H and 6H Callaway Elyte Max. Woods: I hit several but loved the TaylorMade Kalea Gold drive and #5 faraway wood. Finally, putters. I had read about the TaylorMade Spider and was keen on it. Unfortunately it is only available as part of the complete Kalea Gold set. Tried an Odyssey, but the head was too heavy and caused me to hit the ball too hard. Ditto with a Tommy Armour. The Ping G Le 3 Fetch was my Goldilocks putter. Lots of control and holed half of the putts I made with it.
Although I had the clubs, I wasn’t set on the grips. The woods were ok, but the others meh. Settled on some Golf Pride CP2s. Even though Matt is going to take an inch off the shafts, I still may choke up (I’m shrinking), so I prefer a less tapered grip.
Bag: I’m an Orioles fan so I had to have the TaylorMade Cart Lite Cart Bag in Coral.
Balls. I thought the firmer the ball, the farther I would hit it. I did start out with Titleist Pro V1. Matt suggested a super soft Callaway ball and I hit it much farther. Ended up buying a box of TaylorMade Speed Soft and 2 boxes of Maxfli SoftFil (they were on sale).
Since I have a 3-hr round trip drive to my Golf Galaxy store, Matt arranged for my clubs to be ready late the next day or the following day at worst. I can’t wait to get them!”
