The Halifax Historical Society was founded in 1949 to gather, preserve, and present the history of the Halifax River area to educate the public. Since 1986, our home has been the former Merchant's Bank Building (circa 1910, located in the heart of Daytona Beach's historic district, a destination in itself. The museum's permanent exhibits showcase the history of the greater Daytona Beach area, from Ormond Beach through Ponce Inlet and Port Orange (known as the Halifax Area, after our river), the museum’s timeline begins with artifacts dating from 2,500 to 5,000 B.C.E.
