Management and office workers are useless and unresponsive, maintenance is useless and unresponsive, internet is unreliable, may or may not be a roach infestation preventing people from moving in

I understand that no college apartment is going to be perfect, but my experience at Alight was beyond disappointing and honestly not suitable for anyone. I initially chose this place because the rent and parking were reasonable, and it's within walking distance of campus, but that’s where the benefits ended.
For the entire year, there was a “pardon the dust” sign in my building (building 3), suggesting renovations were taking place. However, I saw no actual improvements, despite a rent increase for the new year. The interior paint job was sloppy, and the floors were scratched up. While I’d occasionally see people cleaning, the only area that ever looked truly maintained was around the main office.
Inside my unit, the condition was subpar. The couch and chair in the common area were worn out, and the blinds were grimy. The kitchen was just okay. My personal bedroom had stained carpets upon move-in, a poorly done paint job, and a bathtub with a large stained dip that caused water to pool.
The Wi-Fi was unreliable. Even after they replaced it, I got disconnected during several important exams, which were all timed. The walls and ceilings are extremely thin, it constantly sounded like my upstairs neighbors were stomping, and outside noises came through like the window was wide open.
The worst issue by far, though, was the bugs. We had roaches, spiders, and beetles. Eventually, I began noticing small red bumps on my back and legs after waking up. After some research and closer inspection, I discovered that I had carpet beetles in my room. My favorite part though is that the adult beetles weren’t causing the red bumps, it was actually the larvae that were. So there was larvae in my bed while I was sleeping.
When I brought this to the office, I was told the bugs were probably because my unit was “by the forest”. And no I did not have any plants, which is what they sometimes come from. Pest control was only available once a week, so I had to sleep in that room for nearly a week after reporting it. There was no emergency treatment option, unless I paid out of pocket, which is a huge burden for a college student. I had to report the issue twice and was even given tubes to collect live bugs to show it. Within 20 minutes, I brought them four live ones crawling around my room.
After that, we started seeing roaches more frequently, in the kitchen, cabinets, and even among my dishes and utensils. Pest control had previously come but clearly didn’t treat everything effectively.
Ultimately, this place made me so uncomfortable that I drove four hours home almost every other weekend just to get away. Living here felt more like surviving than thriving, and I would not recommend it to anyone.

I have lived in Alight Gainesville for 2 years and I’m going to be very realistic. It is in a very good location and the parking situation is awesome. I wanted to say more because it was clutch, but this is honestly it.
The building in general are dirty. They do have a cleaner that comes by and cleans the floors, but I see that generally the hallways and elevators stay dirty for long periods of time.
The apartment when it was given to me was not in good shape. The couch we had was DESTROYED, the walls were dirty, the rug in my room was wrecked(which by the way I was charged a damage fee for even though I didn’t do it lol), and every appliance in the house is sub par. The dishwasher breaks like every week, the microwave is weak, the stove came loose and I had to fix it, when I first got the apartment I had broken blinds, and other little things that were just unpleasant and ended up getting blamed for(I didn’t get blamed for all of it though).
BUT LISTEN, I am aware and understand that running a residential building and tending to the needs of every resident is difficult and I would appreciate the effort if not for two things. First and most shallowly, I was paying a minimum of 1020 every month for a place with 2 other guys which seemed like so much considering the condition of the place. If I was in the same place but payed less or a nice place and payed the same it woudl make sense.
And secondly, the staff seemed very apathetic most of the time to me. This isn’t all of them. But a lot of times when I showed up to ask for a package or ask for a question I would get blatantly ignored u til they were done talking or they seemed slightly annoyed or like I was being ignorant. There have been times where I have called them when my AC broke and called them for a week straight being told I would get help and didn’t get help for a week, sitting in an oven until they came to fix it. I also called them to fix my couch and it took them a year and a half, which I was told they only purchase furniture once a year, but they could have told me that during my pleading and not once I was moving out.
The worst part about it all is I am being charged 120 dollars worth of cleaning and damage fees, but when I moved in, it seemed like no cleaning or repair took place so I am wondering where my 120 will go to. I guess the next resident will find out.
I highly advise anyone considering alight to consider one thing, is every other place fully booked? If it is, Alight will solve ur problem, but this isn’t a home to me, it was a temporary solution I had to deal with.

Living at Alight was the WORST decision I could have made this summer. I was taking summer classes at UF and subleased an apartment here and my experience was everything but pleasant. The day I moved in, I was not expecting to have to deep clean the entire place due to the state the previous tenants left the unit. The entire common space floor was sticky with visible layers of dirt, the washing machine and dishwasher were filled with mold (and the dishwasher with rusting silverware), the walls were covered in dirt, the couch was completely torn up, the fridge didn't shut all the way, and there were two trash bags left by a pervious tenant sitting on the balcony for god knows how long infested with maggots and caused flies to enter the unit which were a pain to get rid of. I literally had to bleach the balcony to get whatever viscous residue had leaked from the bags off. The more I cleaned, the more I found. I understand it was the previous tenants responsibility to maintain the cleanliness of the apartment to their preferences, but how was it allowed to get that bad? Did not a single inspection happen? There is a place to view past inspections on the resident portal, but there hadn't been any, so why include that? They emailed about an upcoming inspection during my few months there but I don't think it ever happened, or at least I was not home for it and it was not documented in the portal.
Maintenance was helpful with the fridge issue but that's about it. They replaced one couch cushion and had new couches sitting outside of our doors for weeks leading up to move out. I had a water stain on my ceiling in my bed room and someone came in while I was not there and stood on my bed to spray paint over it. How do I know that? There was spray paint on my bedding. Why would I put in a request for something that isn't going to get done correctly? WORST OF ALL: My unit was infested with grain beetles. When I noticed them coming out of the baseboards in the kitchen, I thought, I think I can try to get rid of these first because of my last experience with the water stain, but I ended up putting in a request and pest control came by and told me I had to throw out all of my non-refrigerated items and deep clean all the cabinets, and if they came back, that means I didn't do it well enough. As you may be thinking, yes they came back. I am a full time student with a job and barely had the time to do this extra cleaning ON TOP of everything else I had done for this place so I simply kept some pantry items in the freezer to avoid the beetles getting in there and reproducing. And to make everything so much better, the pool was closed almost the entire summer due to the pump breaking. I understand that wasn't anyone's fault, but it sucks that one of the only things I was going to enjoy there was closed. I had reached out to management shortly after I moved in about all of the concerns I had about the condition of the unit and they did nothing.
Now I have cleaning fees charged to my account after I'm moved out???? What could I possibly have to pay for after EVERYTHING I did WITH MY OWN TIME AND MONEY. Absolutely infuriating.
If you read all of this, thank you and I hope you DO NOT live here ever!

Was looking for an apartment close to the UF campus and had such a lovely experience feeling comfortable and excited to lease here! Jaimenna helped us every step of the way and was so kind, thank you!

For the price, Alight has some great offerings at a walkable distance from campus. Management has been kind and accommodating for me and my friend. They let me transfer twice within the property without any transfer fees. The first time was so I can room with a friend in a 4b4b (after my first renewal) and the second time was to room with my friend in a 2b2b (due to extenuating circumstances with another roommate)
Just keep an eye out for too much moisture on the walls and too little light. The apartment walls tend to hold moisture and some areas can be rarely accessed and lack light such as the shared closet and the bedroom closet.
For example, in the 4b4b I stayed in, the shared closet (which is adjacent to the washing machine) was dampened from a leak and grew a ton of mold. Maintenance came in and took care of it quickly though.

I have enjoyed the atmosphere here. The location is perfect. Only reason for the four star is at times communication with the staff can be confusing. Otherwise definitely recommend.

This is one of the most poorly managed apartment complexes in Gainesville. I lived in Alight for 1 year - a full lease - and there were multiple points where my roommates and I considered breaking our contract. From a month long, full blown cockroach infestation in our kitchen, black mold, broken AC, unclean air vents, and dirty move in conditions (this list is not exhaustive), we received little assistance, compassion, or understanding from management. From move in to move out we had issue after issue, and management was completely unhelpful. I have lived in many apartments in Gainesville and none were as unenjoyable, miserable, and disgusting as Alight. If I could give -100000 stars I would. I would be able to look past the issues with the apartment itself if the management office had a shred of decency in their handling of the issues - but unfortunately they did not, so I am leaving this review. Do NOT live here. I cannot stress this enough.

Incompetent maintenance locked my friends door while we were at the gym so when we got back to his place we couldn't get in. They wouldn't answer our calls so we were stuck out of his room and he had to find another place to sleep. They never told him they were there and weren't requested in the first place.

Do not stay here. Do not give them your money.
Moved in, reported black mold on the walls during inspection, took them over a month to investigate. Their first action was to spray paint over the mold (and all over our floor and vacuum cleaner). They told us it was no big deal they could deal with it through the exterior hallway. Next thing we know we’re locked out of our apartment as they rip down the walls (mold damage was extensive and definitely hazardous). They disconnect our AC, washer and dryer, and leave us without a wall. Management and maintenance failed to communicate what their plan was, provided no evidence that it was safe to be in the apartment during mold remediation, and gave us no compensation whatsoever.
This is just another housing complex attempting to rebrand themselves as “luxury”, meanwhile the pool was closed for the first ~4 months we lived there, something’s always leaking, they charge you a million service charges on the online portal.
The whole company is rotten the whole way through, from the property manager up to Scion’s corporate management. Just spare yourself the headache.

One-Star because management is so horrible. They will find any excuse to overcharge or bill your account for whatever reason possible. Do not set up automatic payments as they will steal your money. Look somewhere else to live if you care about your savings and expect any sort of integrity from the front office.

Lived here for for 3 years, here are my pros and cons:
Pros:
- For the price, you can't beat the location (I paid $700-$800 for a 3/3)
- Nice gym, pool
- Never lost a package or delivery
- Really nice and helpful front office staff
- Cheap resident parking
- Free visitor parking
- Not as loud as other student apartments
- Maintenance staff will come after hours (once at 1AM on a Sunday)
Cons:
- Can usually hear people on the floor above you
- Thin walls
- My room was not cleaned well when I first moved in
- Maintenance was really good my first 2 years here, but got worse after ownership change
- The apartment gets very dusty very fast, I cleaned it regularly
- Very old appliances, two of the ranges on my stove broke
- Toilet had constant flushing issues, had to hold down for 10 seconds to ensure no overflow
- Funky smell from the sink (at times)
- Shower pressure isn't amazing, but acceptable
If you are paying upwards of $1000 per month, I would look elsewhere, but for the price it's a very good apartment place and I would recommend it
At the end of the day, it's student living and you get what you pay for
