The man helping at the counter had a bad attitude and energy. He was annoyed that people make reservations at the end of the day the day before since they won’t know if they have any cars the next morning. This issue is something that has to be dealt with your company and Expedia. The customer should not be able to reserve a car if you know you won’t have any cars available. The customer cannot plan when they are going to need a car, sometimes emergencies happen and we need a car at the last minute. Also the man helping at the counter said this was the worse job he ever had. He seemed angry and was unprofessional and disrespectful. He obviously should not be working there. I def won’t be going back there or recommend anyone to use this location.

Corporate will respond to this with the “we’re so sorry [insert name here], you were never meant to have a terrible experience…” a terrible experience couldn’t begin to describe my time with Avis. If North Korea was to try and design a rental car company as a way to weasel a spy into the US, it’d be Avis. I won’t get into the gritty (and identifiable) details but they run business in the most uncertain and discomforting way I’ve seen in a while.

This is my 2nd and last attempt to do business with both Avis and Budget… the first time; had my confirmation number, paid in advance, everything set. Arrived for the pickup, 7:45am, they open at 7:30am, they received me with “I’m sorry we don’t have any vehicles” this time, “I’m sorry the vehicle reservation is under yours wife name and since it’s not the same last name we can’t provide you with car” I was shocked when he said that, what an inappropriate comment I reply, then I realize this happened not so long. I’m still in disbelief…

I would give negative stars if that was possible. My husband and I used the Avis website to rent a Tesla model 3 (or similar) from Hilton in Gainesville, Fl, earlier this week. Arrived at the Hilton, and there was no signage anywhere indicating where the rental desk was.My husband asked the hotel reservation desk, and a polite front desk person told us it was around the corner from the Shula's restaurant sign. We finally saw the counter, and 5 people were waiting in line. There were 2 computers at the very small desk and only 1 reservation clerk. The empty desk had a sign that said that the attendant was away moving and cleaning cars. The reservation clerk (a boisterous white-haired gentleman with a mustache) that was there helping people seemed to be going as fast as he could to process rentals. If you're just dropping off your car / keys, apparently you can just leave them at the desk or in the dropbox. But anyway, back to rental process. After waiting for about 10 minutes, we finally arrived at the desk. The gentleman was polite and apologized for the wait, but upon seeing our rental reservation, he mentioned that that location does not offer electric vehicles, specifically Teslas, since they do not have a charging station. He also said that he would've called us ahead of time to save us the trip, but my husband's phone number in their system had "extra numbers". This sounded like a flimsy excuse for not having the rental vehicle that we reserved for our day off to celebrate Veteran's Day since my husband checked this information online, and all the contact details were correct. We even had the reservation printout, and his phone # was clearly correct with 10 digits. Even if the reservation clerk could not call, there is always an email address, and we had reserved this vehicle several days in advance since we had travel plans with the (now fictional) Tesla. The clerk understood that we were interested in a Tesla, so he recommended that we call or go to Gainesville airport, which he said carries electric cars like the Tesla. He also mentioned that he doesn't understand why the Avis website keeps posting rentals from Hilton for electic vehicles since they don't have charging stations and they don't offer them there. The only vehicles that the clerk had were trucks, a Lexus, or a mystery semi-charged not clean Chevy electric vehicle (which is opposite of the clerk saying earler they don't offer electric cars there). At this point, we just need a car and already know that the clerk might be saying anything to get us a rental...My husband and I decided that the Lexus would potentially be the more reliable of these mediocre options. We were not pleased with our decision since once my husband started driving the vehicle, there were noticeable issues with the way the car was running. The brakes were not responsive enough and had a wheel bearing noise upon stopping. It also made a bunch of weird noises (metal grinding) that were not related to regular car noise. The exterior and interior were visually clean, but the interior smelled like a nightclub ashtray. Whoever rented the vehicle before us was clearly a smoker or had multiple passengers who smoked. We were displeased and also worried about our safety with the shoddy way the car was running, so we decided to return the vehicle at the nearest Avis. This happened to be a few miles away at the Gainesville airport. I will make another review for that rental experience. Stay tuned.Overall: -5 out of 5 stars.Renter beware: If you rent from here, make sure you call ahead of time if you're looking for a specific vehicle as they might not have it when you get there.

Booked and paid months earlier then went there one hour earlier the guy at the desk said that there is no car available and nobody knows if there will be available. I ask for some kind of assurance coz I have a flight to catch and he said I don’t know with a raised and threatening voice. Well I just backed out and cancelled the booking. Never had this problem with ENTERPRISE. Lesson learned.. Avis 34th Gainesville no available car standby for rent. Rude and threatening personnel.. if I can give zero star I will..

If I can give minus stars I definitely would. The most rude disrespectful man works at this branch and he would guarantee that you would not get a rental today. First he said he can't accept my pay check to get the discount. After a long call with customer service he was forced to accept the pay check. Then he checked my credit score and my debit card and said I don't have enough credit balance on my debit card. I showed him my card and said I have enough money and still said he can't give me the car. Also he asked me not to come to Avis again ! Avis out did their customer service again !PS: I called their airport branch to ask whether they accepting pay checks for the discount they said "of course".

Poor service, the owner refused to give me a car when he saw I paid online. He said there is no car available and asked me to cancel my order and go to the airport. After 60 minutes, I decided to call the customer service and ask for help. Then, all of a sudden, he found a car (I was standing next to the counter, no car was returned in the last 60 minutes).

We were treated very rudely at this place. We arrived on time and asked for assistance with our reservation. The person kept insisting on a direct deposit receipt from UF as proof of employment. Despite showing my current I-20 and letter of appointment, he became extremely angry and started yelling at us, referring to us as "you UF people." He forcefully grabbed my driver's license and credit card, threw a car key at us, and shouted, "YOU DO NOT COME BACK HERE EVER, GO BOOK AT THE AIRPORT..." It was a terrible experience. Unfortunately, I had to return a car from Orlando to the same place at the end of my trip. Hoping to avoid encountering the same person, I politely handed the key to him while he was busy. Later that day, I was billed an extra $20 for a late return fee, even though I had returned the vehicle six hours early. I contacted Budget, and they refunded the fee. While I understand that someone may become grumpy at the end of a long day, this person displayed an intense hatred for UF students that I wish I could have helped him with. I recommend avoiding Avis and Budget rentals at this location for a better experience.

this guy is really a fraud!! be careful. He charged my credit card after I returned the car (returned on time, full gas, no damage). I called customer service, they had no idea about the charge so they credited the amount BUT I wasted one hour of my time on phone until they solve the problem.

I always prepay the rental to guarantee the car exists when I go to the counter. The staff at this location gets really really mad at me when I prepay the rental car. They keep arguing why I prepay and try to cancel my reservation (only because he cannot make commission on the rental and charge you more). My suggestion: ALWAYS prepay, it is $20-30 cheaper if you prepay. If you have an issue with this staff, call Avis customer service and report it immediately.
