Refuses to let state employees pick up cars all of a sudden? No notice of the new policy even when provided with ample ID…

Inam, one of the counter agents, is just awesome. Kind, polite, and very efficient and communicative. I've engaged with him a few times when renting a car and he is just the best, and I wanted to say so here. As an anecdote, I recently rented a car (Dec. 21) and showed up a bit before the counter was scheduled to open at 9 am. A few minutes prior to that, Inam appeared and very politely let me and another customer know the counter was about to open. Thank you so much, Inam!!

I needed a car last minute and they provided my nice vehicle right away with an affordable price and awesome customer service. They even allowed me to extend my term with no hassle.

Horrible maintenance on their cars, they allow very dangerous vehicles on the road! Bald tires with wires showing, dead batteries on plugin cars that will literally shut off while driving and pieces of metal in tires. All three happened to me in two days with Avis rental cars, and a threat of a $450 fine if dog hair was found in the car!

Called to rent a car and was told they will not rent to me as I’d be flying in private with no return ticket.

Had a reservation at dollar car rental at the Gainesville airport. When we got there we were not allowed to use our debit card. My uncle had to attend a funeral so we did not know what to do. As we walked by Avis the associate overheard our conversation with dollar rental since they were right next door. She helped us right away with no problem and we were able to use our debit card. I wish I could remember her name, she was awesome.

Worst service ever!! Rude, slow, uncaring, and ended up not finding my prepaid reservation. Not even an apology.

Worst experience ever!!! Charged me twice for a 24hr rental! Now they have to see my credit card statement to realize they charged me twice! I’ve spent an hour on the phone with them. Emailed several times. Now I have to contact my credit card company and ask them to step in.

I would like to acknowledge the excellent service provided by the customer service staff at the pick-up desk—they were very polite and helpful throughout my rental process. However, I wanted to share my feedback regarding my recent experience with Avis.
Despite reserving my preferred vehicle type over a month in advance and receiving multiple confirmation emails from Avis, indicating that my chosen vehicle was ready for pick-up at the scheduled time, I was disappointed to find that none were available upon my arrival. I was forced to "settle" for a smaller vehicle, which was not only unclean but also had a distinct cigarette smoke odor and a slow leak in the back driver-side tire.
This is not the first time I have encountered such an issue when renting from Avis at the local airport. While I take some responsibility for continuing to choose Avis despite past experiences, I am puzzled by the recurring problem of reserved vehicles not being available upon pick-up.
I want to emphasize that the customer service representatives were the highlight of my experience, demonstrating professionalism and attentiveness. However, these positives were overshadowed by the significant inconvenience and disappointment with the rental vehicle's condition.
I am sharing this feedback constructively, hoping that it can contribute to improvements in Avis's reservation and vehicle maintenance processes.
Follow up:
Less than a week after posting this review Avis was kind enough to respond...resulting in the below action on the part of Avis to address my experience.
RECAP: I faced several challenges that significantly impacted my overall satisfaction. These included not receiving the reserved vehicle type, encountering cleanliness issues upon pickup, detecting a persistent odor of cigarette smoke within the vehicle, and dealing with a slow leak in one of the tires.
While I appreciate the initial refund of 2% as a gesture of acknowledgment on the part of Avis, I believe that this amount falls short of adequately addressing the extent of inconvenience and disappointment caused. In fact, it may inadvertently convey a lack of concern for customer loyalty and satisfaction.

My experience with AVIS was horrible and costs me a job opportunity. I booked a rental car through Priceline on 3/22/2024 to go out of state for a job opportunity. The car I tried to rent was through Avis via Priceline. Even though the receipt said to pay when picking up the vehicle, I paid a Lyft driver to take me to the airport in Gainesville, Florida to pick up the rental car so I can get to the interview on time. When I arrived to the checkpoint where Avis was at, the front desk saw my name in the system, asked me for my license, and to slide my card into the machine to pay for the rental car (which was a debit card). However, the front desk told me I needed to pay with a credit card and not a debit card. I explained to the Avis representative neither Priceline nor Avis did not tell me I had to pay a credit card to get a rental car. I tried using my credit card, but it got declined. The Avis representative told me who couldn't issue me the rental and gave me back my driver's license. The situation prevented me from going to my job interview, which I missed out and lost the opportunity because Avis and Priceline left out important details about their payment process offline. However, I saw signs at the Avis front desk about "Debit Card Policy." If they had signs about that, why wouldn't they take my debit card? I took the matter to social media and Avis responded. Avis did not offer me no type of recourse and no form of making things right due to the inconvenience of my time and my attempt to attend an important business affair. Prior to that, I called Priceline and explained to them about the matter. They told me to call Avis and to get the matter rectify through them. I am highly disappointed with both services and I recommend anybody to not use any of these services due to poor customer service, potential implicit bias, and misinformation.
