Went to adopt a cat. Found one we liked, was told the cat was a stray brought in from nearby, paid the adoption fee and had to wait for fixing to pick her up. Then I get a call saying the cats owner came back to get the cat as she was a “surrender” and they changed their mind and wanted her back. Had already sent our money back before the call even. So they’re liars and even if an animal is surrendered, isn’t they’re paperwork to that. What am I paying for if it’s not an “adoption hold”. Not to mention they continuously called her a boy after correcting them multiple times. So I was lied to and something’s not right. Would not recommend. Take your attachment and money and time and emotions elsewhere. Also read the other reviews. Not their first rodeo it sounds like.

We have adopted our kitties from Jax Humane Society. My youngest daughter has also started reading there as part of the Pawsitive Reading Program. I can tell you the people there care so much for the pets needing homes and medical attention that I am beyond touched at the love and dedication of the staff and volunteers there. These are special souls called to care for these precious animals. St. Francis of Assisi would be proud of them!

Didn't want to take my cat because of when I found him as a kitten outside probably for 3 weeks to 4 , and since he is now a house cat for a few months which shouldn't even matter, the point is he's healthy had his shots and isn't a mean cat they should've taken him for that! But didn't, also rude customer service didn't offer to open the door for me when I'm carrying a 20lb cage with a cat with both hands. don't waist your time and gas money to get your pet a better home cause these people will reject you for stupid reasons ?

I’ve adopted two cats from here. First cat had no issues so I went back a month or two later and adopted another one. While going through the process with the most recent cat they told us it had conjunctivitis and just needed to be treated with an eye ointment which they provided. After bringing the cat home within a week or two my other cats began to get sick. We had to bring all three of our cats to the vet and we found out that the new cat had feline herpes. The other cat I previously got from this shelter became very sick and had a fever of 105 degrees. We have been to the vet probably five times already because of these issues as they keep reoccurring. Unfortunately all three cats we have will now probably have herpes flare ups for the rest of their lives.

I tried to adopt a young puppy from Jacksonville Humane Society today but I was told that I couldn’t adopt it because it had to process, only to see a staff member beg her boyfriend for the puppy when he brought her lunch and he walk out with it minutes later. My family wanted this specific puppy days ago however, it was pre-adopted then got returned today as I walked into the shelter, so to be overlooked and lied to once I came back for it, is extremely frustrating. It’s supposed to be First come, first served but I guess that only applies if someone in staff doesn’t want the animal too. If you need help with a pet that has any issues definitely do not go the JHS. After waiting almost 2 hours we were turned away because our dog has some anxiety issues, with a list of possible resources to get help. No one communicated with us they sent in the receptionist to talk to us instead of a vet tech or anyone knowledgeable. I have always thought this was an excellent company and resource, the issue is they help who they want instead of listening to someone desperately asking for help. The receptionist continued to tell me she was sorry, she was just sent in and doesn’t really know what’s going on. I was absolutely disgusted and disappointed at the lack of professionalism and the unwillingness to help.

Amazing staff & facility! Initially, we fostered a kitten and, shortly after, we adopted her. Every spring since, we’ve fostered one or more litters of kittens, including some that were very sick and/or young and required around-the-clock care. Fostering kittens and nurturing them back to health is an incredibly rewarding experience.Throughout the years that we’ve supported the JAX Humane Society, we’ve learned that donating to, fostering for and adopting from the JAX Humane Society is a great way to make a meaningful difference in our community. Since the number of animals in need in our community often far exceeds the number of volunteers and foster families, I hope that you and your family will consider donating your time and resources to support the compassionate mission of the JAX Humane Society.

Very poor service they did not make anything clear when we first stepped in they said that we could go in and look at the cats and if we had a cat that we were interested in to let the front desk know when we got back to the area where the cats were a different worker told us that we couldn't do it that way. Refuse to be any more clear and refuse to help us at all. Seems to me by reviewing a lot of your posts or not your post but previous post before that you've had this problem before so it goes to show that you have very poor quality and helping people out

Great place, Great people! I adopted my cat (Elina) august of last year. Went in today for a second one. The one I was interested in didnt like to be held so I was like, "nevermind maybe another time". On my way out the lady ran and told me about some cats that were dropped off at Petsmart southside. Went over and there HE WAS!I love my new cat, he is everything! I wouldnt have him had she not shared that information! BIG THANKS to her :)

They did not disclose all of the kittens medical issues. They did not tell me that the kitten had a hernia.. I had to take the kitten back so she could get emergency surgery 2 days after I adopted her. The customer service was horrible. Also, the voucher that they gave me for free check up & a follow up that covers up to $250 was a joke. When I took the kitten to the vet for the follow up appointment they did absolutely nothing and I still had to pay out of pocket. So I have no clue what the $250 covered. I’ll be going to St Augustine Humane Society from now on.

I've visited a number of times through the years and remember when they had the trailer style office. The new facility is amazing and the staff is kind. I adopted a dog named Daisy this holiday season and I couldn't have asked for a better dog. She was there a while and returned twice (not good with cats). She fits right in at home and is the most loving sweetest girl! We want to adopt another but we will wait until she is well settled in.
