The Jacksonville Humane Society (JHS) is a local, independent non-profit in Jacksonville, FL that has been serving the community since 1885. In 2005, JHS officially became a no-kill shelter, and in 2014, Jacksonville became the nation's largest no-kill city with the help of JHS. The organization opened a new Adoption, Education and Pet Help Center in 2017, after a fire in 2007 destroyed most of their property. Visitors and volunteers have praised the cleanliness and well-maintained facilities, as well as the friendly and knowledgeable staff who care deeply for the animals. The humane society is highly recommended for those looking to adopt or volunteer, as it provides a wonderful experience for both the animals and the community.

Does not offer public services such as TNR for community cats. Their recommendations is to go to everypet, DO NOT DO IT. They mistreat and are cruel to animals, they also operate for profit, do not support them. Instead support your local veteranarian, a human who acutally truly cares about animals.

This place is amazing and has an awesome turn around rate. Went in on a Friday and adopted Archie. We then came back that Sunday and all the cats were gone and half the dogs. We were surprised. The staff is friendly and amazing which helps but this is definitely a great place to visit and bring kids to pick their forever... read full comment
