Nancy Forrester's Secret Garden is a sanctuary and rehabilitation place for rescued parrots, including African Greys, Cockatoos, Amazons, and McCaws. It is not a traditional tourist destination or a tourist trap, but rather an off-the-beaten-path location with a local, Key West vibe. The garden is essentially a backyard housing several parrots in individual day cages, with the birds moved to indoor cages each night. This is an educational place focused on the birds' best interests. Many of the parrots are older, with some having been through a lot or having rough pasts. They are rescue birds who are not meant to be touched or held by strangers; this is not that kind of bird place. Visitors should not expect photo ops of holding parrots. The self-guided tour features mass amounts of information, with backstories and personality profiles on each bird's cage. The person who runs it is kind, knowledgeable, and dedicated, sharing amazing tips and conversation. The work to rescue unwanted parrots and prevent bird abuse is noteworthy. It is a must-see for bird lovers and animal lovers, offering a unique, anti-tourist type experience. Donations to support this worthy cause are encouraged.
Loved seeing the birds. The docent was very thorough and informative, and the birds were entertaining.

We had a wonderful time. My friend Ashley rescues parrots, and I knew she would enjoy this special place. We were fortunate enough to meet Miss Nancy, and spent a good hour learning about her rescue.
