I have to assume the snobby lady at the register was the owner. She sells new and used items, which I support, however she has a hangup about calling her store a thrift store or her vintage, used items, second hand. It’s no wonder you had no business while the neighboring store was booming. They embrace giving beautiful used items a new home and you’re embarrassed to admit you even have second hand I.e. used items for sale in your store. You got frustrated with my question and asked me what I was looking for, rhetorically I might add, because then you advised that I should just go to the Lovely Boutique down a door or two. Lady, I came from there and was delighted with all of their merchandise. I was out shopping for a birthday gift and your attitude stunned me to the point I decided I was not giving you my business. I could tell you saw that by the look on my face. I’ll be sure to not cross your threshold again.

Dear Prudence opened in 2000 in the 2800-2900 block of Corrine Drive called the Audubon Park Garden District. This area may well be the coolest part of Orlando. Along this strip you will find a funky mix of unique and independent businesses including the End Market, Park Ave CD's, craft beer, the Lovely Boutique Market, and Dear Prudence.I was drawn into Dear Prudence by a Wednesday Adams inspired outfit they had displayed outside. Inside is a beautifully laid out boutique with a fascinating mix of vintage inspired clothing, accessories, and gift items. Some of the clothing was new and some pieces were gently used. I loved the ethereal skirts, flirty dresses, and lacey blouses. The whimsical jewelry also caught my eye, especially the Old World Style Cameo necklaces ($24.00). I anticipated the prices to be higher but when I checked tags everything was quite reasonable.I was solo at the time but the next time I come to Orlando I plan on taking my daughter shopping here. I know she would love this store too. If you can't make it to Orlando you can shop their online store for accessories and they offer free shipping in the United States. I didn't see the clothing they offer in the store in the online shop. Dear Prudence was fun to check out and is perfect for anyone who favors a vintage look.

Everything is imported from China except a few handful of things. Everything starts at $15 as well, the return policy is insane, it's only 14 days and even then it's store credit only if the owner even approves it. I would not recommend this shop.

Mothers and their children are not welcome here. I don’t ever write negative reviews of local businesses, but I brought my two daughters (6 and 3) to shop on our Saturday morning out. We live in the neighborhood and always get breakfast at P is for Pie (highly recommend) wander through the shops (such as the aptly named The Lovely next door, highly recommend). My oldest loves gems and crystals and has been begging to allow me to bring her to Dear Prudence to shop as she has been looking in the windows for months as we pass by. I gave my daughters a pep talk before we entered about being respectful and not picking up anything without permission from me (the middle aged female employee heard me as the door was propped open). She referenced my speech as she followed my daughter around the store the entire time.My aspiring geologist and jewelry loving 6 year old daughter was admiring the varieties of gems and crystals and I had told her that she would be allowed to pick some out to make jewelry with. The middle aged brunette woman in the store was anything but welcoming to me and my children. She followed us around within arms reach at every moment, I’m not sure if she was worried we were going to steal something or somehow break the stones (??) but she was tailing us closely while at the same time not offering any customer service assistance.Eventually after some shopping my daughter was narrowing down her selections and the woman came up to me and said that if we “weren’t going to buy anything, we should leave” since my daughters were “making her nervous”. She also said I should come back and shop when I don’t have the children with me. I have never been treated in such a way in my life. My daughter left in tears not understanding why we had to leave when I had promised her she could buy something from the store.I am not sure if the woman was the owner of the store, but she definitely seemed like it based on her concern about my daughters possibly touching any of the items for sale. We are not talking about priceless heirlooms here, the items are all under $25. We were the only customers in the entire store. I am a proud resident of Audubon Park and always do my best to support local businesses. If this is the way local residents (or honestly any humans at all) get treated shopping in this store, then perhaps they shouldn’t be open in the neighborhood at all. I will not be returning with or without my (apparently unwelcome) children.

If you could give a place 20 stars, I would give that many. I was looking to visit a bead store near Salon on Nine in Orlando. When I walked in, the owner greeted me and then just let me look around without constantly asking if I needed help (+2 stars). I causally looked around the entire shop before I said, "Now that I've finished casing the place, I e what I want to take with me." Her response was to ask me if I needed help finding something as opposed to calling the police or something (+3 stars). I took one pair of earrings to the counter to purchase and noticed that she was making earrings. I mentioned to her that I had seen two other pairs of earrings, one set I liked the top half and one set I liked the bottom half. She then told me that she could make them for me. hmmm. I figured that I would need to just come back later. No, she stopped right then and gathered the beads and wrote to make them! I asked her to rearrange the elements, and she was happy to do it. I asked if she could make them clips and she said, "no problem". (+15 stars). This is a true boutique. As much as I love Amazon, you better believe when I run across a business with real customer service and intimacy that I'll be a loyal customer and spread the word. Oh, yes, they do sell beads! ?????
