Fort Pickens is a remarkable historical site located within the Gulf Islands National Seashore, open from sunrise to sunset. Visitors can explore the well-preserved fort, which features informative signage about its history. The entrance fee is $25, but an annual or lifetime National Park pass provides access. The on-site bookstore operates from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., and guests are encouraged to download the National Park Service app for self-guided tour information. Families can enjoy a fun afternoon at Fort Pickens, especially if they catch the Blue Angels flying overhead. The fort offers a unique opportunity to teach history, though caution is advised for small children due to uneven ground and stairs without railings. Activities such as fishing, biking, and skating are available, making it a great spot for both history enthusiasts and outdoor adventurers. Visitors are reminded that dogs are not allowed within the fort, and climbing on cannons and historic structures is prohibited. Overall, Fort Pickens is a must-see destination for anyone in the Emerald Coast or Pensacola area.
Beautiful weather, beautiful scenery, interesting place! AAll should see what we have locally and know our own history!

It was great worthy of four stars missing the fifth only because its understaffed the visitor center was closed and the signage was atrociously poor. I suspect that the government cut backs on supporting national parks and monuments has something to do with it. So I understand that it’s not their fault.

Great historical place. Keep an eye on small children. It is a historical building and there is uneven ground and stairs some with no railing. But a great place to teach history, a place they can see and touch.
