Ehmers Karl Quality Meats, also known as Alpine Steakhouse & Butcher Shop, is the oldest premier restaurant, steakhouse, meat market, butcher shop, and small specialty grocery all under one roof in Sarasota. A family-owned business, it has a wide-spread reputation built over more than 40 years. It is a locals kind of place with great service, really nice and personable people, and very good food quality in both the restaurant and butcher shop. The menu features traditional steaks like filet and Delmonico ribeye, German dishes, and its famous turducken—a three-bird roast popular at Thanksgiving. Other favorites include Hungarian goulash, lamb chops, a chargrilled burger, shrimp cocktail, and soups like tomato bisque and baked French Onion. For dessert, the hot apple strudel and peach cobbler are standout choices. The attached butcher shop offers fresh, high-quality meats such as thick pork ribs, osso buco, meat for pot roast, and homemade bratwurst, with sandwiches made from their prepared deli meats.
