We have just renewed our storage unit at the Edgelake Rd site (Sarasota) for Extra Space Storage again.We can't say enough great things about the property!Sue, the site manager, is very helpful. She goes out of her way to respond to questions super quickly and efficiently. She has always been in the office when we stop in with a question; she is a real pleasure to deal with.The property is very clean and dolly/carts are always available for renters' use. The interior aisles are wide and swept clean. The parking is very close to the entrances and there is plenty of room for both cars and moving trucks in both the back and front entrances.The building is on a quiet commercial road, yet also right off the I-75 expressway -- super convenient to get in and out quickly.In our experience, it is a well-run operation.

facility is nice and clean, well maintained. Sue who was on duty was just wonderful. very pleasant and helpful. My wife even went back home and brought her some homemade cookies.

First, I am hesitant to leave a negative review, because at any time they can just pump your rates up. I understand supply & demand. As a customer for at least four years weathering through the constant rent increases, I wouldn’t be surprised if this review will provoke them to increase my rent in my new unit. Backstory — I am sincerely disappointed in my latest interaction. My rent for my (Prior) storage unit grew so large that I had to downsize with a Web special (10 x 20 to 10 x 15) which saved me ~ $400/mo. I fully anticipate that the web rate will go up in the next couple of months which is disappointing as well. The process to switch from one unit to the next was horribly managed. I had confirmed with one representative of my move out date over the phone. I was told I wouldn’t even “have to go to the office because I was merely switching units” and all of the lease agreement papers were completed and the lock I currently had would be moved into my new unit. Then come the phone calls, from three different people, one while I was actually in the building, moving my belongings by myself. I immediately called back and also went into the office confirming I was in the process that moment that I was moving out on the date that it was agreed-upon, January 30. Even going into the office after my move out on January 30, another representative said, thank you for letting us know, I’ll note that that you’ve moved out and moved into your new unit. The final call which I believe was from a manager or assistant manager, for the third time on January 31, warning me about my move out even though I went into the office on the 30th and let them know the move was complete—DONE. I covered all of my bases. I knew something had changed over the years because the service and the way that they speak to customers (my last contact with them, I believe her name was Julisia, talking over me and not letting me respond, also throwing in an “extra charges” statement by not moving out on the 30th, and then implying that they were doing me a favor by backdating my move out to the 29th which is NOT the day that was agreed-upon, it was the 30th it’s on the lease paperwork). She was so rude and obstinate with a chip on her shoulder, essentially telling me that they were going to overcharge me. Who at this business is talking to whom? Who is entering information into their database systems that should manage and control communications from customers and clarifications and confirmations. And then come the overwhelming text messages again on their end with misinformation and not looking at the original agreement to move out on the 30th which I did. Bombarded with phone calls and text messages is not the way to satisfying a customer who has been with you for so many years. The miscommunication is egregious. The only person I will give kudos to is Kathleen, who initially helped me with switching units. I gave two stars because the complex is clean and well-kept. But the staff, and miserable increases in rent (I was in a 10 x 20 reaching approximately $500 a month, downsized to 10 x 15 with a web special of $96 a month) are unfathomable when you compare a 10 x 20 to a 10 x 15 — not much of a difference in size but look at the price difference! I know my rent is going to go up again in my new unit, but to pay almost $500 a month to a very minor size downgrade saved me almost $400 a month. I guess it’s the game that must be played but the next time my rent increases I’m out of there. I’ll donate everything to charity except my very, very personal belongings. This place has taken a dive. Particularly with managing move-in and move-outs, and the way that they speak to you and constant miscommunication among the staff. I’m not a fussy person, and I rarely leave negative reviews (look at all of my google reviews), but I can’t standby and let people make threats to me and then make it seem as if they’re doing me a favor when I abided by the terms of the lease, the move-out date/move-in date to the new unit and MY communication to them multiple times.
