Liars and backstabbers. I got in Thursday was Friday I was talking to this guy that runs this other program called the street team. I was suppose to be helping cleaning areas of Sarasota for three hours and I was going to get the help of finding a job and get rehousing after my two week probation as long as I obey and comply with the rules. Except. The director was making up lies about me and all around just giving me a hard time. These people are dirty. Don't give them an inch of this place. Now I am homeless again and I have to find another shelter?! That shelter is awful. They don't really want to help anyone they act like they care and they are already want to give up on you just after they put in some hope in you?! I am now having to find another shelter but in a different location of Florida?!????toa

Bad experience with Sarasota Salvation Army , I’ve been homeless sleeping on the streets for 5 days with no money or food and they turned me down for a bagged lunch meal because they said I wasn’t registered in their program ,,,, really?!

Salvation Army used to be very helpful for the homeless people feeding people but somehow they've lost their way they don't let the homeless in there anymore they don't feed people but they out there with their kennels at Christmas time and all the holidays looking for money let's ask the important question what is this money going to and who is it helping cuz it's not helping the homeless which is sort of the idea of people give the money to the little buckets for to help homeless people get a meal and a place to sleep at night it's a disappointing organization now and I won't give another nickel to them they've already caught one guy and bezeling money and maybe more cuz something's not going right with this place anymore

I just called on behalf of my friend who is borderline homeless and was told that they no longer have emergency shelter at this salvation army. They told me the next closest salvation army with overnight shelter is in Bradenton and then hung up on me swiftly not offering any assistance.

A Christian based nonprofit that charges the homeless for services??? They did away with the free dinner program. They are in cahoots with the city to chase away the homeless population instead of helping them or finding a solution. The donated vehicles to the Salvation Army are shipped out of the state of Florida, instead of working with other nonprofits to help the poor. All the nonprofits in Sarasota are pretty much shady and work together to use and exploit the very people they are supposed to help for donations, grant money, the salaries of the executive directors, and to help their board members benefit.

This place is strictly a for profit company! The only allow 35 people in to pay them $12 for emergency nights. After payment they require persons to leave the property until 7 pm thunderstorms or sunshine it get out. You will also be woken up at 4:30 am and locked on an area called the " Porch" until you eat and are asked to exit the property at an hour that nothing else is open in the area. If you means to go somewhere else consider the opportunity with open arms for exit!

This "spiritual, non-profit agency" has been a bitter experience of discrimination, neglect & greed. Staff, particular staff are abusive towards clients & get away with it.The $12 you pay includes breakfast, dinner, showers & a thin jail mat on the floor. You'll be woken up at 4:30AM to wait an hour outside for breakfast. You'll be thrown out all day until dinner. After dinner, you're thrown out again until 7 - 9PM (New procedures begin at 4:30PM for paying & signing in for the night). Sleeping on the floor is HORRENDOUS for anyone with Severe Osteoarthritis & other forms of Chronic Pain. Employees don't provide accommodations if you have medical conditions you struggle with, even if you have a doctor's note, in some cases. No one will help you get into a program & housing if you really need the help. Instead, those who make no effort are the ones who receive all the help with getting into permanent housing. My experience as an Overnight Shelter Guest has included being the target of discrimination.I've been banned several times due to distorted lies about me & my medical problems. I was even banned for an entire week during the cold weather after 2 days of being unable to wake up at 4:30 in the morning after I finished a program which allowed waking up later in the morning. This ban forced me to sleep in my car.Update Feb. 2022:My experience of being in a program consisted of being expected to do everything all by myself. I was never informed about the entire process of getting successful permanent housing. I can't produce housing vouchers out of thin air. I mostly received no help, or on rare occasions, the most minimal assistance. At the beginning of the program, my neglectful case worker clearly said: "You're not going to benefit from the program...housing vouchers are too much work & they expire before you can use them." She did NOTHING to help me during the time I was in the program. I had no idea what to do except to blindly sign up on waiting lists for different places.I was bullied by the others in the program, which became the main focus of my time there. While I struggled with finding housing, those who made no effort or were fraudulent about their "disability" & those who broke nearly all the rules were awarded with housing vouchers "for life" & endless time in the program doing nothing to participate. On the other hand, my time was terminated after 30 days strictly based on being bullied. The only option my case worker had for me was to move into a house with housemates, share a room with one of them & pay most of my SSI benefits for rent, leaving me completely broke. I refused due to a similar traumatizing experience I had once before.Your best bet is finding another form of temporary housing rather than wasting your cash & time at an agency that won't help those who need the help.
