Payless at Tampa international Airport- There were 4 Payless registers and none were open. You had to wait in the Budget line which had 7 registers and 3 people working them. Three other employees just standing around smacking their gum while the wait in the line was 1-2 hours! No reasons given. No apologies. Don’t rent from them if you value your time. When we finally got a car it was taken by someone else. Back to the counter. Again no apologies.

This is for the Detroit Metro Airport location. Don't ever booke a car with them!!! They gave me a car that was never cleaned, smelled like weed, and had zero gas in it. When I took it back to them within minutes of noticing this, they put me in an open trunk Jeep Gladiator while it was raining cats and dogs outside. I said to them I don't want the jeep and just fill up and give me the original car back so I can get to the wedding event I came into town for. This apparently locked their system and the gate agent wouldn't let me out. Had to go back in and wait another 45 minutes before they cleared this up. Total wait time from beginining to end 3 hours. I have never had such a bad experience before. Also, I want to mention it was NOT Tawnya's (desk rep) fault she was alone with a slew of people in line and this company set her up for failure. She should quit and not be put through this on a daily basis!!!!!!

Payless car rentals associate tried a scare tactic to get me to buy their extra car insurance. I politely declined his offer to which he stated “USAA if you have an accident will be charging $5,000 deductible for both comprehensive and collision coverage since you are in a rental”. I still declined and called USAA myself to inquire about what he said, I was assured he was absolutely making bogus claims as your current full coverage deductibles apply to any rental you chose to go with. Shameful behavior on the part of this associate and to add insult to injury we also declined his fuel ⛽️ offer so we wouldn’t have to fill up before we returned. I was charged $30 for returning the car with 17.9 gallons as we left with 18.2 gallons??? Wow hope you enjoyed your bonus this weekend. You’ve lost my business and many more for this poor behavior.

I rented a car for a day first of all they didn't accept my insurance policy they charged me $30 extras for insurances . When i returned the car they took some pictures told me everything good. I asked for receipt he said he is going to email me a copy I am still waiting for receipt. I called them for receipt put me on hold for 30 minutes no unswerving. their customers service is offal. It isn't worth to do any business with them too stressful by the way I wait almost one hour to pick me up from airport to their office they are take advantage of all the customers they do dirty business.

Worst expereince EVER..DO NOT USE. I just received a letter in the mail saying they are charing me $125 b/c they found "animal hair on the vehicle" which makes no sense. AGAIN do not use. This is a shady shady service.

If I could give this zero stars, I would! Terrible company! No shuttle waiting, and no shuttle ever came! They left me stranded for over an hour despite being on phone telling me they'd send someone. Then refused to give a refund. Ended up having to go to an airport counter to rent a car with another company. BEWARE!!! DO NOT RENT FROM THIS BUSINESS!!!!

When I went to pick up my rental they double charged me and I showed the person behind the counter that I was double charged. They denied I was and just glossed over it. Instead of only having $500 on hold, they took $1200 out of my account. That money was held by this company for almost a week. The $1200 was the money I budgeted for my trip and I couldn’t access it for the entirety of my stay in Florida.Once I dropped off the rental I contacted their customer support, I explained the situation to the customer service rep and they asked to put me on hold and see what could be done. They hung up on me instead, I called back and was told they’re closed and wouldn’t be open till the next day at 9am.I received my money back about a day after I dropped off my car, but the stress of having 0 help whatsoever when $1200 of money being tied up because of an employee error (an employee who also straight refused to acknowledge the error) was a nightmare. I’d rather walk everywhere than ever go through that again.Be weary if you choose to get a rental from this company

Payless rental car was the best I’ve ever had. They supplied everything they promised. No surprises at all. I definitely will go to them next time we need a rental car.

I ended up waiting 2 hours in an incredibly long line to pick up my rental car at the Tampa airport. They really need more staff to handle this level of volume, because more than half of the staff desks were empty.

Scammed by agent to aquire insurance and gas option for extra $250 for the week, was told gas option cheaper than buying gas outside per gallon car brought back full still charged for gas, told needed insurance cause if anything happened I would be billed and would have to try to get reimbursed by my insurance later, so I should take it as it will cover immediately. The agent did not divulge the truth in these 2 matters. I have not rented vehicles for vacation previous and felt taken advantage of by the selling agent. We rented out of Tampa and returned to Saratoga due to a Delta flight cancelation. The price was fair, but the car had been doused with some kind of air freshener that I believe was used to cover up a prior renter's smoking. The scent was extremely unpleasant -- but since it had taken over an hour in line to get the car, I did not attempt to get a switch. There were no Payless personnel at the Tampa airport -- we had to get into the Budget Car Rental line which was extremely long. And this was at 9pm. Also, they made an error on my bill by adding a gas service charge. I did not buy the tank of gas and I returned the vehicle full of gas. I called Payless, and they did agree to reverse that charge. It was not a great rental experience, but at least the car performed well.

Once we got a car that wasn't defective, everything was great. Getting to that point was painful. We rented a small SUV which wouldn't start on our 3rd day of vacation. We called Roadside Service, and after being on hold 25 minutes (the shortest amount of time we were on hold), we were told we couldn't just return to the car rental, we must have a tow truck (which they would contact) come get us and our belongings because they had to determine whether or not the car would actually start. The tow truck contacted by Payless didn't have a contract with them and didn't service our area as they were located 200 miles away. Two phone calls and over 2 hours of hold time, plus the time in between the calls, we finally reached a representative that did what the first one should've done. She got us an Uber back to the airport to pick up the replacement car. The frustration with the customer service people and the loss of entire vacation day for something that could've and should've been resolved within the first hour of us calling makes us less than willing to recommend Payless.

Beware of all those up sale items they try and get you to buy before you take the car. DO NOT have them fill it with gas unless you are strapped for time. It is a lot more than you will pay at the pump and they tax it! Car was dirty, tire pressure on, and windshield wipers were completely rotten!

Had to wait 2 hours in line for pickup because nobody was at the booth. The customer service representative was soo rude for no reason and ended up giving us the wrong parking spot number. When we returned the car early and with over 100% fuel we were charged a late fee and extra fuel fee!!
