I stopped in at Writer's Block Bookstore when exploring Winter Park for a day last month with my mom and stepdad. It's small but charming and very well stocked/curated. Ten minutes in that store and I was ready to walk out with five books! The staff were really friendly and sweet! I picked up a new book for my flight back home the next day. Charming spot!

What a delightful independent bookstore. Perfectly located in winter park. You can purchase a book and sit in the park, or grab a bite to eat. They rock because they have amazing book events. I came here for the Tabitha Brown book signing. The staff is great and I will definitely be back.

Employees seem dumb and disorganized. Not sure how they have customers or keep their doors open.

Unbelievably bad customer service.First of all, I love all things books and book-related, so it pains me to write a bad review of my local book shop, but the lady who works here is so awful with customers that I feel obligated to warn them away from her.I’ve gone in this shop before, and aside from the customer service, it’s a charming little shop. I have observed that the staff doesn’t seem very knowledgeable about books, but that’s okay. I just like to browse and breathe in the delightful smell of pages. I’m in several book clubs and I also love children’s book. I’ve read just about every children’s book out there, but I always like to hear about new one, so one time I went in here with my kids and asked the older lady at the counter what book she would recommend for my 5 year old son. She recommended a popular board book that would be great for a 3 year old. When I mentioned that 5 year olds are usually too old for board books, she didn’t seem to know of any other children’s books. No problem- I made a mental note not to bother her in future, and kept on browsing.Fast forward a year or so to today. I was in the shop looking for Christmas presents when a sweet old woman came in and asked that same lady what books to get her grandchildren for Christmas. The lady barked at her to go upstairs to the new children’s section, and someone could help her there. The grandmother tried to tell the lady more about her grandchildren, and the lady interrupted her with another command to go upstairs. The woman looked a little lost, so after she stepped away, I smiled at her and asked what kind of books her grandchildren like. (I have worked with children of many ages and can generally figure out what books people will enjoy!) She seemed happy to tell me about them, but just as she began, the lady employee interrupted me with, “No! She doesn’t work here. Go up to the children’s room and they can help you there.” The woman ignored her and continued telling me about her grandchildren. She said she had an 11 year old granddaughter and a 15 year old grandson, and the 11 year old is a straight A student who loves school, but as far as she knows, hasn’t read much fiction. I said in that case, it would be hard to go wrong with the Harry Potter series, featuring Hermione, another straight A student who loves school. I’ve met very few children who don’t love Harry Potter. My only caveat, I told her, was to make sure they hadn’t already read it, because it’s very popular, but she didn’t think they had. I also mentioned that the new children’s room upstairs was indeed lovely, and she might find some other great books there as well. As I turned to go, the lady who worked there took the woman aside and said derisively, “by the way, Harry Potter is much too young for your grandchildren. They won’t be interested. High school students are far too old for Harry Potter.” Um, excuse me? Did she not hear that the granddaughter was 11? And anyway, does she really think high school students don’t like Harry Potter? She must be crazy! Or maybe she’s never met a high school student … or read a book! Also, if she was (as it seemed) only fiercely determined to get the woman to go spend her money in the new children’s room, at the sacrifice of all conversation and customer service, what’s wrong with promoting a lovely hardbound set of 7 books, to be purchased in the children’s room? This review is only for the customer service and general knowledge of books displayed at this store, not for the store itself, which is nice. I would say that Writers Block should fire the older lady at the counter as soon as they can, but I’m very afraid that she might be the owner, based on the way she was bossing around the other employees as well as the customers. Very disappointing.

The shop is quite small, but accessible and beautiful. Great selections of all sorts of books, including resources on topics that can be harder to find in central FL, like social justice and queer topics. They also have an excellent selection of children's titles and cute kid corner for reading! Only drawback is that they are rather small and it can feel a little cramped inside. Take a moment to stop in this shop if you are on Park Ave., you'll be glad you did!

I took my boys here after a fun-filled weekend at the waterpark in Orlando and this was the highlight of the trip for me! It is a cute, little bookstore with friendly staff and a great selection. They had a section for banned books and LGBTQ authors which we enjoyed and made us feel so welcome. I cant wait to visit the next time we are in town.

I've been in a few times, and the employees have been super friendly, always asking about my day, discussing store events, and books. I'm enjoying the three new books I picked up, and it feels nice going somewhere other than B&N sometimes. Not sure how often I can really visit since there isn't much room for an abundance of books. I dont love that you have to squeeze by people in the middle of the store due to the layout. Haven't checked out the WG store yet, but I definitely will soon.

I have been shopping here since the opening of the original store and have loved to see how it has expanded and continues to grow. It was a much-needed addition to Central Florida. The book selection is incredibly diverse from local authors to national best sellers. There is a book there for everyone. The staff is extremely knowledgeable and the cafe is a nice addition to sip coffee, spend time writing and/or reading one of your new selections. I also appreciate all of the visiting authors and story time that they promote.

I finally got to pop in here while shopping on Park Ave! Writer's Block has a bright and cheery bookstore space that's full of happy customers - my favorite way to experience a bookstore. Staff is friendly and the store is elevated by the coffee shop option in the back. I'll be returning soon for my next book!

Very cute store! The staff was friendly, and there was a decent selection of books. My friends and I had a great time, and we all found something that suited our fancy. I look forward to my next visit.

What a bookstore should be! The love and joy of reading books is quite evident. Variety is the key here, yes top sellers have an area, but they leave lots of room for the mind to expand to different literary heights for the mind, and soul. It feeds the idea that reading is essential to the mind and or lives. Very cozy, deserves a bigger space, with comfy couches and more books!

Writer's Block is a really cute bookstore, I thought the design and layout was simple and effective - very easy to find books, and a great selection to choose from. However, I didn't have a great experience with the staff. I overheard one of the employees speaking to other patrons about how she had recently started working there, and when I approached the counter she was having a conversation with another employee complaining about some of the processes of tasks she was completing. This conversation continued for the duration of my transaction, in which she never greeted me, made eye contact or spoke to me other than to tell me the price of my purchase. Maybe it was a one off but it was very unprofessional to be complaining in such a way, and how she spoke to the other employees was rude. So maybe I'm glad she ignored me.I would visit the store again, don't get me wrong - it just wasn't my favourite customer service experience.
