Fernbank Science Center is a free, family-friendly venue dedicated to science literacy and life-long learning for all ages. Housed within the DeKalb County School District, it offers a random, retro, and weirdly wonderful collection that feels like stepping into a time capsule. Exhibits include a T-Rex skull, a scaleless snake, and real NASA hardware like the Apollo 6 Command Module, alongside bees and frogs. While the exhibits can feel small and random, the heart is in the right place. The planetarium is a major highlight, featuring excellent 360-degree shows that are part comedy and part science, described as the best part of a visit. After shows, there are often short expert panel discussions. The observatory offers stargazing with knowledgeable hosts who explain what to see and are open to questions throughout the experience. The venue also provides advanced science instruction and labs for students, along with fun shows and community volunteer opportunities. Overall, it is a uniquely nostalgic experience that is worth a visit for anyone intrigued by science.
