The John P. Thayer YMCA is a vibrant and energetic downtown facility with great views. It offers a wide range of well-attended classes and a variety of activities, including Silver Sneakers. The facility has a pool, sauna, steam room, and hot tub, and features new, clean gym equipment. The area is great and the place stays clean. The customer service is always great, with very understanding, accommodating, nice, and patient staff who treat members like family. The front desk provides consistent great attitudes. However, the basketball court leads a lot to be desired, with a lack of maintenance on the gymnasium floor. While it costs more than most gyms, many find it worth it for everything offered. It is a great deal for Silver Sneakers participants. After class, there is good coffee and shops nearby.
