I entered the store about an hour ago and the lady behind the counter was helping to ladies. The employee looked up at me and said “no pets allowed”. I politely said I understand but he is my service dog. The lady she was waiting on looked over at me and my service dog as I was trying to explain that it’s against the law to refuse a service animal with with her customer agreed with me before I finished. Thinking that the employee would realize her error I took another step inside. I was stopped again and she stated again “NO pets”. I simply turned around and told her that she was breaking the law. As I stepped towards the door she rudely said “sorry but NO”. Her customer came to the defense of my service animal in which I thanked her and said some people break in law on both sides and the ones that don’t pay the price.
I hope this lady looks up the law and educates herself so that others with real service animals are not discriminated against in the future.
Too bad too because it’s a cute little shop that I would have loved to explore and purchase something. I’ve enclosed a photo so you can see he’s not a threat and doesn’t shed. Not that it would matter if he was 100 pounds with hair flying off Service animals cannot be discriminated against

Woman at the counter never greeted us or smiled when we said hello to her. She stared at us while we were shopping for tshirts and when I stopped to make polite conversation with her she just looked away. Not a great first impression of our first time on Jekyll.

My boyfriend brought me to this island for my birthday, trip has been great until I walked into this store today, as while shopping, my boyfriend observed the old lady at the cashier staring at us as if we were going to steal something, she clearly didn’t feel safe with us in there as we are both people of color. Got what I wanted and left and won’t return to this what seems like to be racist and children hating ran business practice. As a small business myself and a person who is kind REGARDLESS of color, age, orientation, etc. I’ve never treated my customers this way and never will. Neither should anyone. NO ONE deserves this treatment bc of their race period. Don’t go here if you’re a person of color or have kids or service animals.

We were waiting for them to open to get souvenirs before heading home. Hours basically state going to open when they want, but it was 10:05 on a Sunday,?????10 is when it says open, the owner unlocked & walked out but locked it & never acknowledged us standing there waiting. Just started using the leaf blower. Never said when he would open. Heard others talking about how rude & obnoxious he is anyway. & from other reviews, this is the norm. Won't waste time there.

Man was very rude and condescending. I had to ask my question multiple times before he took the time to stop playing on his phone. And continued to be rude and wouldn't even look at me or my husband. so I left. Those service animals being denied should file complaints with the ADA as that is against the law. Don't waste your time here.

Really rude old lady working there who ignored us going in and she saw I had a service dog she said no dogs allowed I told her she was my service dog and she said no service dogs allowed either, So if you have a service animal and come near that store don’t go in there, She doesn’t deserve the business.

Very rude. I barely made two steps into the store with another person and a service dog.. do I assume would be the owner, stated no dogs allowed. No hello. No welcome
. Just no dogs motion into the door. It's no wonder his rating is barely over three. This is Jekyll Island and it's part of our community. I'm local but he didn't know that. What a shame if he treats our tourist the same way

The owner is rude, obnoxious. If this is the way of the island, YOU CANN HAVE IT.

This is our family’s favorite store on the island! We have been coming to Jekyll at least twice a year for at least a decade and always buy something from here every time we come. Not sure why anybody would leave a negative review of this place. That’s just weird! Whittle’s rules!!!

Cashier was very rude. This place has always been unwelcoming and has treated customers poorly. Go elsewhere.

I wish I had a way to give 0 stars. I had a horrible experience here. The gentleman was extremely rude. I walked out and was telling my mom about the experience and she said was it wittles? She reminded me that as a child(we've been coming since I was born) they were always so rude. I'm talkng to the point we refused to go back in there. I didn't pay attention to the sign before we walked in tonight and I wish I had. A family business is not a birthright or a right in general. You still have to earn respect from customers and show appreciation for those that have kept that same family business afloat all these years. It is an absolute shame that these owners are so entitled that they think it's ok to treat people with disrespect. There are plenty of other shops that have staff who show respect and appreciation. Do not spend a dime here.

Store isn't dog friendly and the man was extremely rude about it. I have traveled the entire country with my small dog and this is the first touristy type store I've been to that he wasn't allowed to enter. The dog is very old and can't walk so I carry him in a bag. There's no issues with him having any accidents anywhere or causing any damage.
The guy in the store was very rude. So much for that so called southern hospitality. There was no greeting and an apology that dogs aren't allowed. Instead he just yelled out "no dogs" when I entered. I told the guy the dog will stay in the bag and his response was that it doesn't matter, no dogs. I can appreciate the no pets policy but he should learn to be more polite when informing potential customers about it.
So if you are a dog lover, don't bother patronizing this business. Spend your money elsewhere.

It’s a shame I have to give a star at all in order to rate this place. I think he sells children’s toys so that his power trippin’ self has a reason to gripe at children who are doing nothing but potentially getting their parents to spend their money in his store. I’m not sure why someone so miserable would remain in retail (selling children’s toys) in a heavy tourism area. 0/10 do not recommend a visit until this man gets some help with his attitude.
