I've never rented from Dollar before but I will be back. Who could imagine such a friendly staff at a car rental place? From the shuttle driver, to the person who handled the rental, to the person who guided the return, to the final shuttle driver, all had big smiles and friendly voices. The car we rented was at a great price and was spotless.

My rental is INFESTED with small roaches. I picked up a car from Dollar's Hilo, HI location yesterday and drove it to the home we are staying at. Woke up this morning to head to the airport & when we opened the door, the lights turned on revealing roaches EVERYWHERE. They are small and scattered when the lights turned on. I ran to get my phone to take a video, when I came back and recorded most had hidden but dozens were still out. We are forced to put our luggage in trash bags before putting them in the trunk; an attempt to protect our things. I have 3 kids traveling with me. This is unsanitary and unacceptable.

Found German roaches in our rental car and went to exchange it the next day only to find a German roach in the next car as well. Spent way too much time exchanging cars and ended up being stuck without a car because we were too disgusted to try another one and didn’t want to pay outrageous prices for a last minute rental with another company. Absolutely disgusting and unacceptable, especially with young children and a pregnant woman, and now having to worry about not bringing them home with us.

We had a very positive experience with Dollar. Although they were extremely busy with pickups, the associates were efficient and very kind. They did not have the type of car we reserved and gave us a free upgrade which made our day. The car was extremely clean and fun to drive. Drop off at ITO was also a breeze, we pulled right in and were able to walk across the street to check our bags. Prices were extremely reasonable and exactly as stated when I reserved the car.

The total amount I paid was not the total amount presented to me by the associate at the counter. I was told that the total I would pay was about $500 but they very conveniently emitted the fact that their third party, through who I originally booked, had deducted $300 from my account as a “deposit” and I later found out that the $300 was not part of my “total.” It was the price of the rental and my “total” at the counter was only insurance and fees. Of course the verbal gymnastics were led by a sheet of paper with fine print that I was obligated to sign in order to complete the transaction. So I’m sure that means I have no recourse for any refund. So, it was misleading and dishonest and I won’t be renting a car from them again. The car wasn’t in great shape either. What I thought was going to be around $45-$50 per day ended up being $100 per day. I’ll use Turo again in the future.

People act like they are on drugs. Tried to charge me 900$ after I had already paid for my online booking. Then refused to rent meA car without a 500$ debit card deposit. Then when I’m Trying to figure out an alternative they started to close the gates on us. Left a Disabled Veteran and a 10 year old kid stuck in the middle of the night. Thanks for nothing Jerks.

I made a reservation for a four-wheel drive (4WD) vehicle and even paid for it. However, when I went to pick up the car, they insisted on giving me a car of a much lower class. To make matters worse, they deceived me by falsely claiming that the lower-class car was capable of going up to Mauna Kea, a mountain known for its challenging terrain. The truth was that they didn't have a car in their fleet that was allowed to access the mountain. I am extremely disappointed and frustrated with their dishonesty and will never consider renting anything from this company again.
