Set up an online account since moving from the mainland. They won't allow you to write checks from it or transfer funds electronically out of the bank or even let you set up bill pay. It's been over a week and they can't get their stuff together. Plus hold times are longer than 15 minutes and no one seems to know how to help.

Nearly every transaction or interaction with BoH is a HASSLE!!! Every time I use my debit card to purchase groceries, gas, plane tickets, meals, etc., I have to worry that the transaction will be declined due to "suspected fraud." This seems to indicate that BoH's security technology is DEEPLY FLAWED. And EVERY TIME I log-in to my account on my laptop I have to go through some absurd verification process that requires a text message to my phone. EVERY TIME!!! Really? How is that "convenient?" And why is it necessary? Finally, any attempt to contact Customer Service (during the few hours each day they are open) results in a lengthy hold time, often exceeding 30-minutes. Messages sent to BoH vis their website require 2 to 3 business days for a response. WHY? Is that "service?" Overall, BoH seems to operate with outdated technology, paranoid policies, and is CHRONICALLY UNDERSTAFFED!

Horrible customer service ! Low life's that don't give a DAM ! We have had several horrible experiences with this so called Bank! We have a car loan and personal loan with checking account with Bank of Hawaii ! We only use the checking account to pay loans with them !! After 5 yrs all of a sudden fraudulent charges came into the checking account !! ALL under $20 ! Called and talked to fraud department and they treated us like the criminal ! The Debit cards have never seen the LIGHT OF DAY, never used not in our wallets and locked up ! We cancelled our debit cards that we never used because of what happened ! Told Bernie at Bank of Hawaii look at the history with deposits and loan payments all the same routine never a debit charge never a check written for 5 YEARS ! Asked to talk to supervisor but no one called ! They are a joke, glad our loans are almost paid off !! Stay clear of BANK OF HAWAII !! And oh yeh takes forever to get someone to answer !

ZERO STARS for BOH Mortgage Dept. Sold my home in Ewa. Well, almost, it still hasn't closed. Buyer of my home chose to go with BOH as their lender. After 45 DAYS OF ESCROW, BOH asked for ANOTHER WEEK EXTENSION. BOH cost me $340/month and over $120,000 over the life of the loan on my new house... simply because of a couple days and their inability to close on time (lost my APR lock which was already overextended); note the buyer is motivated and provided all docs in a timely manner. As of today, I still don't have a closing date in Hawaii so I can set a closing date on new home. NO URGENCY ON BOH'S PART TO NOT SCREW OVER THE SELLER... not their money, why would they care. Everyone here on the mainland (where buying new home) has been phenomenal, get out of Hawaii if you can. Lived their 28 years, but done with the lackadaisical island mentality!

People are nice, but challenged systems and technology. Dated to say the least. The technology is so far behind. I wasted 35 minutes on the phone, endless emails, for what took me with a mainland bank 7 minutes total to do. And BOH still a week later still has not completed the task. They use the word Aloha, but their actions lack. Some of the BOH policies require paper wet signatures, a waste of time and resources. I only gave a one star because Zero was not an option. Also, they dropped the ball on my PPP funds and they never processed my application. Even though I was qualified and completely applied in the first hour it opened up for my business( that is now out of business.) I felt that there is some form of discriminatory preferences, when it comes to the way business decisions are made.

There were 3 teller between 1-2pm. 1 of them is trainee. The service is good but if you need to get some complicated job done. You might need to wait for a while.

Terrible phone service. Difficult to just make a phone appointment to deal with an issue not covered by their recording system. Extremely user unfriendly. Lost 30-60 minutes just trying to get through to speak to someone on the phone. Avoid the bank.

My savings with this bank was opened for less than six months. I was told when I went in to close the account there was a charge of $40 for "Early closure". I only found out when the teller wrote my balance down and I saw it was less than I had deposited. She said there was a $40 charge because it was not open for six months. It pains me to write a bad review but this is truly outrageous, especially since I was not told about this upon opening this account. And I am now reading other bad reviews and understanding why so many branches closed. Bad karma reaps painful outcomes, Bank of Hawaii.

If zero stars was an option, that's what I would do. The list is far too long to get into how awful this bank is, so I'll just leave it at, if you love sitting on hold for a MINIMUM of 30-50 min EVERY TIME you need to talk to your bank? Then this is the bank for you! Good effin luck

Customer service is the worst you can imagine in this bank, phone call will take 45 min to an hour to be answer and when they answer they can never resolve you issue. Please make yourself a favor and don't bank with bank of Hawaii
