“Our routine vet was unable to perform a procedure on our dog, Honey. We were able to get an appointment with Dr. Ako without much wait and scheduled the procedure just a few weeks later.

The day of the procedure Dr. Ako called multiple times to give us updates on the process, which was so appreciated. He called the next day to check on her and called to explain the pathology results. His updates helped ease our anxiety and let us know she was in great hands.

“We love this clinic?

After we moved we struggled a bit with finding the right vet who could help our cats. They’ve been struggling after the change, two have been fighting and one has been isolating.

Our first visit we met with a vet who suggested environment changes and setting up spaces for each cat so they could feel more comfortable. She gave us a print out as well with suggestions and tips on how to deescalate cat fights and it even had a list of suggested toys and trees! This helped a lot, we got a wheel for our Manx who has a lot of energy and she stopped fighting our male cat, the cat trees also helped our other female to have spaces and spots near my husband while he’s home who she absolutely adores. The only one who still wasn’t settling was our male.

Our second visit was to talk about our male cat specifically. We were concerned that something was happening that we couldn’t see. Pain, anxiety, or some other factor as he was pacing the house, meowing constantly, and completely inconsolable. The vet was completely on track with us, she suggested a blood panel to check for an underlying condition as well as a pain killer since he is older and is high risk for arthritic pain. We are waiting for an appointment to get the blood panel done since he needs to be sedated for it (he’s spicy but we love him), but we are very pleased with our experience so far ?

Update: the painkillers helped our boy so much and he became so much happier and cuddlier after this pain was managed.

We unfortunately had to say goodbye to him in September when he had a urinary blockage. It was an extremely hard time for me, he had been my companion for 10 years and played a huge part in my life and in the lives of others who knew him. This hospital did an amazing job being compassionate and kind during the whole process. They handled everything delicately and professionally while also being willing to work with and communicate with us on every aspect. I cannot emphasize how much this hospital has solidified a spot in our family’s heart.

“I’ve been to see Dr Chang a few times over the years. He and his staff are amazing and are always super kind and patient with my chickens. With my first chicken he saved her life after she likely ate something toxic and she ended up living another few years. My second chicken made it to 8.5 years and when she finally passed (naturally) their team sent my family a card ?.

I live on the westside now and I will drive all the way to town just to go to this clinic because Dr. Obara and his staff are awesome! This is the most honest and straightforward clinic I have ever been to and exactly what I seek in terms of customer service and their procedures. I’ve been to many other vets on this island and they are all dishonest clowns. They run you in circles and make you pay for unnecessary tests that doesn’t even make any sense. They don’t even give you a summary of the work that was done to justify the costs. Here at Kalihi Pet Clinic, they are on top of their treatments provided, very straightforward, affordable and don’t run you in circles. Very transparent and professional providing you with aftercare summary of the treatments provided so you don’t wonder if you’ve been ripped off. I am very satisfied and love this vet! I bring all my pets here even if I have to drive a long way.”

We had to bring our dog in late at night, and everyone from the first person to take our call, to the vet tech we spoke to when we got to the clinic, to the veterinarian who treated our dog were all kind, calm and knowledgeable. “This review is long overdue... but here goes! I have been taking my fur baby to King Pet Hospital for 8 years after trying two other clinics in town (They lacked professionalism). If you are searching for a vet clinic where you and your pets are treated with respect and at most care, look no further! The doctors and the team are extremely caring and knowledgeable, you wouldn't want to take your pets anywhere else. My dog needed a dental surgery and had to extract seven teeth. Although our previous doctor Dr. Ganzer no longer works there, Dr. Nicole Wong was amazing! She kept us updated with progress on the surgery day, and followed up how my dog is doing the next day as well. My dog's extraction sites healed much quicker than anticipated, and he is happy again! He now actually let us brush his remaining teeth! On top of that, they gave us a generous discount! We really appreciate King Pet Hospital's professionalism and integrity.”

“I have been a loyal customer of Dr. Kam for the pass 30 years. You won’t find a more compassionate, loving and friendly staff. I love the fact that Dr. Kam dies the basic exam, vaccination, etc. in front of you. I’ve moved farther away from Kalihi & have tried closer vets, but don’t like the fact that they take my fur babies to another room doing who knows what or nothing at all without solving any medical issues. And one of them even had me tranquilize my Pit Bull just because she was just overly excited and just wants to love people. No tranquilizer per Dr. Kam and she was able to manage my Pit Bull with no muzzle. Anyway me and my fur babies Love Dr. Kam and her staff and pray she maintains good health and never retires. He and his vet technicians are also patient and great with our doggies . The clinic in Kaimuki is clean and a good location for us - with parking lot in front their building . “I adopted my pit bull 5 years ago, and was lucky enough to choose this vet. If you are looking for high quality individualized care, this is the place.

Over the last year or two, my dog's arthritis and hip dysplasia has progressed, but so has our treatment plan. Most recently, he received PRP, the latest and greatest in treatments. While not cheap, it was covered by our pet insurance and has completely relieved my worries about him and his grumpy behavior as a result of pain. He's like a young puppy again, and I'm so grateful!

Each step along the way, Dr. Lau has been there for us. When we brought him in for his first visit, he had giardia, mange, and an infection in his nueter sutures. Then, from first identifying, testing,and treating his allergies (which were causing infections), to ongoing treatment for his arthritis, to the little moments like that time he ate a bunch of raisins and they were on the phone and ready and willing to assist. We've had dentals, teeth extractions, a small skin cyst removed.... you name it. Truly this practice cares about my dog and is proactive in treating not just his symptoms, but the root cause. As a first time pet owner, I have been endlessly grateful for their care, concern, and willingness to teach me.

“Sometimes you just have to be an advocate for your dog when they get older. I noticed her eyes were going bad from diabetes and I really wanted to see an eye specialist. There are two on this island and this one was preferred out of the two options. It took several months for the first original appointment, which to me seemed kind of normal to see an animal specialist. But once you get in the other appointments seem to be easier. I think the one thing I noticed is that they seemed to be kind of old school. Appointments were scheduled over the phone and manually on a appointment book. Receipts are also not soft copies either to emails. A lot of times you're leaving a voice message on their phone, but it seems like the receptionist has several jobs to do there. Otherwise, everyone there is friendly and we really liked the doctor. She was so very patient and kind to nala which we really liked and always had her best interest. Some key notes - you must have a face mask on if you want to go inside. Prior to your appointment you must wait outside until you're called in for yours. The location is on a one way street in a alleyway so it's very easy to miss.”
