Just perfect. Absolutely beautiful ambiance. A pretty nice variety of meads from a semi-sweet to sweet to a chipotle variety that will spice up your life. Limited food selection to make it the perfect place to hang with 3 or 4 friends for a couple hours and learn all about mead and honey and maybe even the story behind the absolutely gorgeous bar top. Service was excellent as well. Look for the signs after you pull off the Keaau-Pahoa bypass road.

We visited on a Saturday with a friend and tried all eight of the wines they were serving at the time, including their slushie. My goodness! I am so happy that this place exists, especially in my home district of puna. The service was exceptional and the wine was something that I have never tried ever. From what I understand, this is the only legit meadery at least in East Hawaii and they try their best to source all their ingredients locally. The owners are super knowledgeable and run every aspect of their business and walk us through where each ingredient in each wine came from and how it was processed to make the particular wine. We absolutely love that we were able to experience something unique and the experience went beyond our expectations. Don't be afraid to visit Big Island Meadery this is one of the best experience I've had in a very long while! We absolutely love this local business!!Our favorites are the Semi-sweet, Roselle and Chipotle Bochet ?

This experience was a highlight of our trip! The owners are extremely friendly, passionate, and masters of their craft. The honey was phenomenal and the mead was absolutely amazing! . If you love craft beer and wine, this is a must visit. Also, this is the most affordable, high quality mead you'll ever find anywhere! This is a must visit!

Awesome place! The owners are so unbelievably kind and helpful and the mead is top-notch (as was the honey tasting, per our kiddos). Most definitely worth a visit!

I loved this meadery! The owners are so passionate and great to chat with. The mead was excellent too. I usually prefer the ones on the drier side but the sweet ones had such great flavor you really can't go wrong. There were some really interesting flavored ones too, I loved the chipotle one. I'm already looking forward to stopping by here next time I visit the Big Island!

This place was amazing! I love sweet things. This couple started this Meadery a little over a year ago. They are putting their heart and soul into it. They reminded me of my husband and I because when you open a business you put everything you have into it to get it going. This is exactly what this couple is doing. They are DIYers. They made their epoxy river bar top themselves, their epoxy tables inside, the holders for their tasting flights, their menu and pretty much everything else! If you want to support a local business that works hard, support them. They’re fun to talk to. The meads range from traditional dry meads to sweet and even a smoky flavored mead! They have a chocolate infused mead, a hibiscus infused mead, hot toddy mead and many more! We tried 8 of them for $14! The Lillikoi ginger mead was excellent! The aromas of these meads were also something to pay attention to! Bottles of mead are roughly $20. They also bottle up their own honey. Don’t miss out on sweetness!

My favorite mead is the lilikoi ginger. Service was awesome. Owners Vanessa and Devin very friendly and makes you feel right at home. Although it seems out of the way, I think it's very accessible and such a hidden gem for our Puna community. Check them out! I like the decor, everything was well thought. They even have an overflow space for a large group if needed.

Great. Just great. Talked to the owners. This place opened this past October. The meads they produce are worth a visit and a taste. If you have never had a honey wine before, you owe it to yourself to visit. They have both passion and talent. And the bar itself is a work of art. Enjoy!

Awesome place! One of the gals at State Farm in Kea'au highly recommended Big Island Meadery. I told a couple friends and we went to check it out. The place was not the easiest to find, but when we did I was super impressed. The taproom was amazing, I was impressed by the amount of custom wood working, the bar, the tables, the shelves and even the glass holders were all made from locally sourced wood and were one of a kind. Vanessa & Devin provided each of us with a sampler that had 8 different meads. It was really cool to try each of the different flavors. All of them were really good and I am definitely a fan of mead now. Vanessa & Devin were both very knowledgeable and friendly. We spent several hours talking and had a great time. I would highly recommend that you stop into The Big Island Meadery, talk with Vanessa & Devin, and try some delicious mead!

What a gem for the island! The couple operating the meadery are a delight, very knowledgeable and personable. I learned quite a bit about mead during my visit and have been converted to a mead fan. They are using all local ingredients, which is amazing.Prior to visiting this wonderful spot I had thought of mead as being a disgustingly syrup alcoholic drink. Their meads were a delight on the pallet. The atmosphere they set is very welcoming. And the prices are so reasonable. Please check them out!

Mead to table at its best. Big Island Meadery is setting the bar for sustainable beverages. The chipotle bochet absolutely slaps. Cannot wait to pair it with fish tacos.Oh and the price for a flight. At $1.50 for a taster they are intentionally pricing for locals to come and enjoy.Inexpensive craft local mead. Folks do yourselves a solid and get a flight.

As someone who has never tried mead before, I was a bit unsure about whether or not I would enjoy it - absolutely exceeded my expectations. All 8 varieties that were available were unique; and all were enjoyable. The operators provided engaging dialogue about their craft and how they source ingredients. Will be adding this to list of stops when we are hosting visitors to the island. Find time to stop by!

So I went in there to get a Christmas gift for a dear friend of ours, I also decided to get something for my husband and myself. I got them the Lilikoi Ginger mead and I got the cocoa vanilla mead and let me tell you how delicious! My husband fought me on the last drink in the bottle. Definitely will be back again and again.
